Sticks and Aiders - Use Both or Just sticks?

I just picked up 3 shikar minis and made three 2 step aiders and a single 3 step aider in case I want to use it on the bottom stick. I am tired of carrying my full length hawk helium sticks and when folded down they are only 16in in length. If I don’t like them I can always sell them without losing too much. But with 3 hawk helium’s and a single aider on the bottom stick I was only getting 15ft and the new setup should put at least that and maybe a little higher

I use 4 Shikar sticks 17.5" and a knaider and I can get 18 ft give or take. I also carry the swaider in case I have to get higher and I can get 26-28 ft using them both. I rarely need more than 18ft as I like cover or use the tree for cover and just go with a bit larger tree. I am not crazy about aiders but really like my knaider, easy going up and coming down! Shawn

Aiders are nice while going up. Coming down I did not like them, especially at night. Now I rappel and only use 1 stick.
AttackMode: What gear do I need to rappel down? A rope, a bilet device (spelling?) Is that it? Links? Thanks again.

This is similar to what use.

First year experience here. I picked up my sticks and aiders in September and practiced until early November. I used the black diamond 5 step aider and honestly found it to be clunky and difficult, with my hunting boots (lacrosse alpha blurry) I had a hard time getting my toe into the aider as it free dangled to start off with, but also found the inconsistency to be irritating. I think I'd prefer a ladder style in the future and maybe not more than 2-3 steps.

Aiders for me are a lot more important theoretically than they have ever turned out to be practically. Has been a few instances they shined but for the most part I could go without. Pack the Versa aider with me in case I decide to use it.

I’m not sure where you are hunting but in most places I hunt higher isn’t better because then you start having branch interference in your shooting lanes. I find 12-15 feet is about as high as I usually go. I can do that with 3 sticks and an aider I leave on the bottom stick. I have a platform mounted on the top stick. Just ordered a swaider. With that I may go to two sticks.

Very cool. What type of platform is that and how do you have it mounted, if you don't mind me asking?

I use one full Hawk helium and a 2 step aider and then rappel back down. I have not yet decided if I want to cut my 30" stick down or not. Do not really see if there is much of advantage in it.

Dude, that is one tiny tree you're on. Birch to boot. Good setup, btw.
