Looking to go out of state for a Mule Deer hunt in the next year or two. Would like to do a DIY firearms hunt. Already looked into a few states, but Nebraska and Dakotas look good terrain wise for us flatlanders.

Anyone have any tips/suggestions? Looks like NE offers OTC mule deer tags, but not clear if that's only for certain seasons. Have to do a little more research.

Look at eastern Montana too the tags aren’t OTC but the draw odds aren’t too bad and you can hunt them in the rut with a gun if you want

You can do OTC tags here in NE for bow/muzzleloader and antlerless only seasons. Rifle season is application. Half the state is muley habitat and that half isn't as easy walking as one would expect. Earlier in the season the better. By the time rifle season comes around a lot of public ground has been hit pretty hard by bird hunters and guys bowhunting.

I was wondering that. Not clear from the regs website what seasons they sell OTC permits for.

We don't mind the pressure. We're from Michigan, after all. We know to get it done. :D

I do believe you can get a statewide buck only permit too. Can't remember but there are some unit restrictions.
