Summer scouting clothing

I wear lots of bug spray …I HATE TICKS AND CHIGGERS….and I still get them both …if there are any clothes that help with the above am interested.

I wear long sleeves in pants and shirts

Will be following since I will be getting my saddle setup scouting and shooting from the tree

Do you use Permethrin?

I've never found a bug spray that repelled ticks or chiggers. Permethrin is the only thing that helps.

Now if we could just find something for yeller flies. I'd wear it even if the surgeon general personally came to my house to assure me it would in fact cause brain cancer

I have some of those thin wicking liner gloves and I keep a head net in my vest if yellow flys are driving me crazy. I stick my hands inside the side pouches on my saddle also if I forget the gloves ....I forget them all too often. They can still bite thru but the permethrin seems to help. It doesn't do anything to keep them off of u but I don't think they try to bite thru the treated clothes vs untreated but I got no proof other than my observations

Permethrin is #1 but I have good luck with Repel 40% Deet. It has to be 40% or better (they make a 100% but I'm suspicious that is the brain cancer one Nutterbuster is looking for.) I treat the clothes with permethrin but spray my socks and legs with the Deet also. I spray my skin anywhere there are openings in clothing like arms or wrists and neck. I also take a good shower as soon as I get in from scouting. I also run my scouting clothes in the dryer on high heat for one hour if I'm not going to wash them. The heat will kill the redbugs and any ticks on the clothes.

In the dog days of summer I only like to scout early or usually late in the day from like 6pm and on until last light. Otherwise its just too hot for this Yankee. When I do go I like a light t-shirt and jeans/ wrangler ATG pants and a kill suit top as I find the ghillie helps keep the bugs away. I wear a bino harness with a thermacell next to it. I wear the kill suit over the t-shrit as its super light and allows a breeze to flow through it. Plus it keeps me hidden from the chucks and yotes and bucks. I'm seriously thinking about getting a decent spotting scope too for long range field survey's or getting on hills and glassing other hillsides for bucks. It's not as open as out west I realize but I think there may be some justification for long fields etc.

Yes…but I may not be drenching my clothes just use the spray. I really do not want to smear bug spray on my skin. If premetherin on the clothes works I’ll do that more.

Permethrin is great for treating clothes but don't put it on your skin. They say Deet is OK for skin but use it sparingly in my opinion.

Permethrin treated Kuiu Tiburon pants, smart wool running socks, Keen hikers, long sleeve lightweight shirt, and a hat. I can scout in MN at 85 degrees and humid for hours, I’m just a sweaty mess which is no big deal.

Everything treated with permethrin, just now that if you have cats it’s extremely toxic to them when it’s wet. Keep the bottle in a closet, apply it outside, and dry your cloths outside away from them.

I recently got some Austrian summer weight surplus pants from Varusteleka that are pretty great I’m just not the biggest fan of cargo pants.

I have had luck with First Lite's Sawbuck pants. They are light weight and have panels that protect you from briars.

Ill usually wear a light colored sun shirt. That way I can have some contrast when looking for ticks and the long sleeve help with getting scratched up going through briars.

I also permethrin the crap out of everything. Buy the concentrate vs the pre made stuff. I have had the same bottle going on 4 years now.

Scouting every weekend and moving cameras.. wear lightweight hunting pants and UA shirt…snake boots and also like the Repel 40% Deet… here in Florida you have to stay hydrated to do anything outdoors… carry 32 oz water bottle every time I get out of truck!
