Switching from compound to xbow

i get why they think they can...40yds with an xbow is a chip shot on a target.

I am thinking about switching to a crossbow as well. Has anyone had issues with picking up the scope in the saddle? I had issues with my muzzleloader last year, I could not get the gun shouldered properly and see the full reticle
It sounds like for whatever reason, the eye relief set on the scope may be too far forward. You may want loosen the rings and slide that scope back a little bit.

As far as eye relief and in the saddle, I have not hunted out of a saddle with my HC Mini yet but I did hunt spring turkey out of a blind with it this year. I switched out the stock scope with a red dot with a "duplex" reticle instead of a simple dot and to bag the tom I shot, I was completely contorted to my left as they walked by, put the "crosshair" on the middle of the back and it hit where I aimed. I tried to get as open of a sight picture as I could but have used red dots a lot on my shotguns for deer when we couldn't use rifles here and once its sighted in, you just put the dot on the vitals and kind of point and pull. With the Xbow triggers they are not as nice and the Mini's isn't the best but certainly not the worse and it is adjustable too. I have it sighted to hold dead on up to 25 yards. My point is you may gain more utility with a red dot type sighting system for your xbow as opposed to your typical rifle scope type reticles.

Eotech made a holographic sight for crossbows, and I imagine that'd be a good choice for saddle users. Their holographic sights have extremely low parallax error. This allows you to find the reticle and be on target in some odd positions.

You give up the magnification of a normal scope (unless you're adding a magnifier) but it's archery, right?

Love it.

But folks should keep in mind that not all red dots are equal. Some have significant parallax error, including one's that are expensive and popular.

I would probably spring for the aimpoint t-2 in this class of sight, and switch it between slug gun and x-bow.

Well it depends how deep are your pockets there are a ton of great x bows out there and I tried quite a few and read reviews and tried a few more. Many will be very front heavier or to long to really balance well with out a bench or trigger stick and many has to be TUNED because if a string stretches then it cause it to go out of tuned and many comes with sub par scopes that you may or may not like. The package deals are ok but you will eventually want to upgrade after shooting for a bit and many are so fast that you blink and it’s gone. I personally went with a Excalibur micro 340 a real simple design and it’s easy to hand cock with the supplied rope cocker and I can let down easily with out having to shoot it into a target that I don’t have to drag around and it’s safety features are nice and only thing to tune it is keep the string 1/4 to 1/2” above the bumper But you need to buy a stringer for it(25$). You can change a spare string in the field and still continue to hunt. Try that with a compound style x bow. Warranty is great and if any issues with limbs they replace and if you wanted a extra set of limbs it will set you back $110 max I can cock mine while in saddle if needed. The standard scope isn’t bad but I upgraded to the higher end scope that goes to 100 yards with illumination red/green and the glass on that tact 100 is fantastic. It shoulders great and easy to hold but I would shoot 400 grains minimum out of it vs the supplied 350 grain shafts that comes with it snd this includes the 100 grain supplied FP and if you decide to use stock shafts bump your point weight to 150 grains to get to 400 the speed is just about right many guys I know retune their high dollar speed crossbows to shoot between 350 to 330 FPS they find it to be the sweet spot for speed and performance you can buy the package Excalibur 340 thru bass or cabelas or many out let’s for $680 ish but one dealer I know has the best package and bang for you buck you can get upgraded scope and shafts 6 vs the stock 3 that is sent and he will throw in broadheads in the package as well. You can get this set up for about the same or even slightly less than you buy from the box store. Check out wyvern creations out of lee NH he is the largest Excalibur dealer in the north east and also carries many other brands with all of them with special packages so you don’t get the crap stock stuff check his website before you commit to buy because he might have a package just for you

Another thing to add is learn to shoot both hands while in saddle not that hard to do and it’s only a average of 2” difference I found learn your max distance I personally don’t shoot past 40 yards but with my scope I can reach out and touch it off but I don’t I have never never ever shot a deer past 30 yards in my life regardless of what weapon I use Their will be naysayers but who cares … you chose the weapon to hunt with I switch my xbow between my trad gear or compound what ever I feel froggy with that morning. The HC sounds like the ticket for saddle hunting but I like my excal a little to much to try anything else out this year

I have killed several deer with my Excalliber and several more with a Killer Instinct 350. You don't need an expensive one to kill whitetail. Just keep your shots within 30 yards because deer move (FAST). I shot one deer at 40 yards several years ago and it had time to drop and spin around to take the bolt high in the hip instead of low behind the front leg. She went down within 30 yard as it penetrated her entire body and came out the front just below the neck but that ended those long shots on deer for me.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to @Weldabeast
