I’ve been reading a lot of negative stuff about the Tacticam solo action camera. Anyone have any experience with them? Any advice on Tacticam or any of the other action cams? I’m looking at Tacticam vs GoPro vs Sony XV1000.

I have a tactacam 4 mounted on my bow. I think a common misunderstanding is using it as a primary recorder, imo its a much better used as a shot confirmation device.

Mounting method is huge on performance of the tactacam. I have mine mounted to a picatinny rail system right by my stab. I think it takes the majority of the wobble out during a shot.

Definitely looking for something as a secondary angle. I have a camcorder for my primary. My last cameras took film and hi8 cassettes so I’m trying to play catch-up on technology.

As far as ease goes, the tactacam is great. It's sits on my bow, as I reach for it to shoot my bow, my finger presses record. That's it. No adjusting framing as the animal moves, no extra camera arm or gear to carry.

What negatives have you heard that concern you?

The reviews Ive read about the Tacticam solo in particular have said it has connectivity issues with the app and a number of users had to return theirs because the camera quit working all together. I personally don’t have any experience with them just basing it off of reviews.

I don't have experience with the solo, just the 4. I haven't had those kinds of issues yet (thankfully)

No experience with the previous models or Solo but I bought the new Tactacam 6 on some kind of release sale at Cabela’s and I did it mainly as a shot confirmation unit, mounted to my stabilizer and I also have a clamp mount. Yes, I wanted to capture my hunts for memory’s sake, but it’s not a primary cam for storytelling purposes. As a tracking tool prior, during, after shot, it’s been invaluable. when I wasn’t 100% confident in my shot on a doe this year it allowed me and my wife to slow the shot down frame by frame to confirm I’d be tracking a very dead deer. Same with the fiasco on a buck I just shot and put Tactacam freeze-frames in the Live from the Saddle thread. I put three pics in the thread that seemed to confirm I’d be tracking a very dead deer based on shot…well, it SHOULD have been a very dead deer but he was tougher than we expected. Shot was right on the money based on Tactacam’s help, and when I found him the next day the entry wound and internal damage confirmed my tactacam’s footage. He just happened to be sturdy enough to run 300 yards with half an arrow through both lungs!

I do recommend getting a remote control. It helps to cut down on extra hand movements, because reaching down to the actual camera button can get you busted (if we’re talking negatives at all). Another recommendation is to be under-confident in your battery life: if you record in highest quality and/or the “shot” takes longer to record and execute than expected, you could end up with a dead battery before a dead deer. Charge after every 20-30m of recording time or carry a spare battery.

A buddy of mine recently got one of these and put it on his bow and said it’s pointing like 5ft up and 5ft left of where he is shooting. Anyone have any experience or tips to help him out. My understanding is there isn’t a lot of adjustability there? Thanks!

I'm assuming the problem isn't the obvious of not being mounted square?

HOW does he have it mounted? Stabilizer mount shouldn’t be high and left of anything. A little low is where my tactacam on stabilizer mount points. If he mounted with another method, it will definitely change his recorded sight picture.

Mine shoots video pretty much the direction my shotgun barrel or bow stabilizer is pointed. It seems to distort for a quick second when I shoot though. I’m thinking about putting it on a head strap this season. I don’t use the Tacticam stabilizer mount BTW.
