TEAM 1 THREAD

Yall primarily hunting from the sky? Or is anyone staying on the ground this year?

That reminds me... @Nutterbuster you need to start up the ol 'huckit' wagon thread again for this year.

I'm in the sky usually but do love still hunting. last year I was still hunting and had 6 deer surrounding me inside 40 yards...I got pinned down. A fight was going on behind me, a buck was dogging a doe in front of me, and several doe onlookers, it was nuts. Never a shot but great fun. They never did spook, I backed out after they worked off
As far as antlers go... I love em like the next guy but I'm a meat hunter first. I generally take @GCTerpfan's approach

I actually live in the same county in AL as Nutterbuster. I have a trip planned to Black Warrior WMA in early Nov, and a friend of mine got drawn for Cedar Creek SOA in late January. Otherwise I’ll be bouncing around public and private all south of Montgomery AL (but I’d like to expand that list of public spots at some point) I’ve never killed an antlered deer, a deer on public, or a deer with archery equipment, soooooo the first legal deer I have within range is getting shot…at. Then I’ll re-assess from there. I probably hunt about 80% of the time elevated. But I like to think I’m versatile enough to be able to hunt however the situation dictates.

My family eats 3-4 deer a yr. Ton of bologna, sausage and burger. I usually buy 4 doe tags a yr and “try my best” at holding out for a wall hanger. Trying to hunt 30 days this yr like normal. Got a little girl coming in February to add to a 3 yr old. Might be a little limited next yr

I hunt primarily in SE Wisconsin. Unfortunately, I'm close enough to Milwaukee that the public land here gets a TON of pressure. For rifle season, I travel to Northern WI to hunt with friends. The amount of public land in the area I hunt up North is staggering.

I hunt private land in Southeast Michigan and take a rut trip to Southeast Ohio to hunt state land. We scouted/placed cameras this past weekend and put on 6 miles Sat. and 4 miles on Sunday.

I'm normally pretty selective in what I shoot, last year I was on hall17's team and I was not a hiker but I was a "misser". Long story but I hit 2 branches and whiffed on a big one at 42 yards all on the rut trip in ohio. This year I'm shooting a deer or 2 here in Michigan to get the confidence up.

95% in the sky

Right on. Anybody get new goodies that they will be field testing this year? I got a Pacseat that I've taken out once so far. Also have a new pair of Obsidian pants that I'll be putting through it's paces.

I’m field testing this crossbow that replaces the switchback xt I dry fired on the 11th on a 3D course. Bent the cam so not fixable before the season. I figure I’ll probably end up shooting more deer using this thing so maybe that’s a good thing. Like DFA said I’d like to get my confidence up a bit by killing a few this season also.

Sitka Timberline pant - excited for these because of the knee pads built in. Also will be a great pant later in the yr for rifle hunting

Flat Monarch - some spots it’s hard to rappel so climbing down sticks will be what I need to do and this will be a great option to not have to carry a platform

cam buckle on Perch - this is an awesome mod for me and allows for 3 Bullman steps to be added and used easily

DIY ghillie hat - took a Boonie hat I had and zip tied some material I cut off my ghillie jacket

2TC - first yr using it during hunting season. Will be my main way of climbing on longer walks and in thicker cover

I’ve modified my saddle with a battle belt and suspenders and luv it! I also got a new set of Skeletor sticks(after checking all the bolts and replacing the stand offs LOL!) they are awesome, the extra foot space from the step angled away from tree is a huge.

I’m hoping to hunt some new areas that I couldn’t previously access due to water. Got a fishing kayak with a Suzuki 2.5 hp outboard set up this summer and I think she can get me to some new adventures.

I lost permission at one of my go to permission farms so should have some more time for new areas. I’m getting pretty sick of kissing up to landowners for permission anyways. It’s exhausting.

I'm trying a heavier arrow setup and trying the QAD exodus swept 125s.
I bought a method 2 panel last year and may try some, but I still love my Cruzr XC.
I bought some FL catalyst bibs and jacket for mid season for some versatility when I cover a lot of ground, wanted the full zips.
Also got the Nat gear windproof fleece hoodie and an Asbell wool pathfinder for later in the season
