TEAM 10 Discussion Thread

Good sit last night. The corn was cut two days ago and there were deer everywhere. Mosquitoes were ok until dark and then it was miserable. Gotta go look for an arrow. Forgot my range finder and all my previous marks were gone. Pretty sure I was low but I need to confirm.

Find ur arrow ?

I got to scout a place yesterday. Very little deer sign. Most was congregated around the boundary with private where I located a feeder .This is the first year it’s legal to hunt over bait in Bama but you have to buy a special permit. Even with the bait, the deer sign was low there so that piece of public is low on the list.

I did find this track. It’s either a huge dog or a very large bobcat or the elusive “Alabama cougar”;) . I’m leaning towards large bobcat because there were no nail marks. Whatever it was, it was heavy. It was sunk deep in the mud.

I did also figure out a new way to access a small private parcel I have permission. It’s a buddies duck hunting hole. The yellow is standing corn he floods. The whole place is pretty swampy, hence the duck hunting hole, but I have killed several deer there and helped several new hunters kill deer there. The gate is in the SE corner and morning access was always pretty dicey.

I got a kayak this year for some public land access but never thought about private land hunting and then looking at a map one night I saw where I could slip into a small creek on the NE corner and backdoor the North side of this property where all the bedding is located. Should be a cool morning strategy. Although the technical boundaries are more ridgid, the functional property boundary with the neighbor is the creek.

Key:
Purple tents - actual beds I have found
Purple lines - bedding areas
Yellow - standing corn
White - shot deer
Red trail - blood trail
Black - deer recovery location (if no white, dropped in its tracks)
Blue lines - deer travel
Good stuff. My OnX looks nothing like that.

I found it. I got to the farm and they were already cutting in winter wheat. Luckily they had saved the grassy strip where I shot until the end.

We've got some hot temps this week. A buddy shot a nice one over water the other night so that may be the ticket.

Loving my modded sitdrag. I'm not a big guy so it suits me perfectly. I'll be saving the TL for cold weather.

NY opens tomorrow also, but looking at Thursday being the first hunt. Hate it when life and work get in the way of hunting lol

10/5 is our opener. Weather looks perfect, low of 39 high of 60. I have to go to my cousins wedding. I'll probably go sit in a tree for the first hour but I really can't shoot anything or I won't have time to deal with it. Actually I can't hunt the first 3 Saturdays. Wedding, memorial service, and tailgate.

I'll be out a couple evenings after work next week. I can't wait.

I did a thing this weekend and bought a Triax. I could not for the life of me get my Answer tuned. Got new strings and went to three different shops before we finally realized by bottom cam is a little bent. Heck I hunt mountains and thick woods I'm falling all the time but I can recall whacking it pretty good after I shot my buck last year, that must have done it.

Even with that I got my broadheads flying true but I just felt that was a bandaid as they were still way off from my fieldpoints. So here I am setting up a new bow 4 days before the season. Me being the master procrastinator that I am, this is a good lesson to get everything in working order in the summer. We'll see which bow I can get more confident with. I still have 4 more weeks before things really get serious here.

The Triax was like fate. My brother was at an MLB players charity auction this summer and told me this crazy low price the Triax was about to sell for. I texted him to snatch that s.o.b. up and sell it at a profit. Luckily he still had it and gave it to me for what he paid for it. Made out like a bandit.

Hanging now on the edge of a swamp and marsh. Second sit of the season. About 4 trails come to a bed right under my tree. New area so I’m hoping for the best.

What crazy weather. You guys are talking about 100+ degree heat and this morning when I hunted from my Kestrel it was 44 degrees with a cold rain coming down. I was shivering. Set up next to a nice transition corridor between a swamp and thick fir trees with multiple trails and a big new rub. I guess the deer were cold too because I didn’t see any!....

It was blazing hot today in Bama. Got some scouting done today. A little bit of private permission and some public. Got a couple good setups and access scouted out of the work today. One set up is bold set up about 10-15 yds from a buck bed on peninsula. With the right wind and kayak access a couple hours before daylight, it should work if he comes to that one.

We are less than a week out from opener here in Bama! We had a cold front move through on Sunday and season is so close I can almost taste it.
