TEAM 10 Discussion Thread

It was blazing hot today in Bama. Got some scouting done today. A little bit of private permission and some public. Got a couple good setups and access scouted out of the work today. One set up is bold set up about 10-15 yds from a buck bed on peninsula. With the right wind and kayak access a couple hours before daylight, it should work if he comes to that one.

I’m second guessing myself. I think I should wait for a N wind which would be "just off" to try a morning hunt on the peninsula. Or wait for a N/NW/W wind and do an evening hunt walking in from the opposite direction. I have a really sweet set up that I have much more confidence in killing a deer on a morning hunt but it is on some private permission land I have access too (friends duck hunting hole). I was really wanting to go to some public, but with our forecasted wind (SW), this other spot sets up really nice for a morning sit. I think that a SW wind on that peninsula set up is a lower odds hunt.

Here is the private set up:
I would put my kayak in at the NE corner. Slide down to the second blue pin (there is a beaver dam there and the creek ends plus is the transition to the neighbor's property). I have 3 trees I could set up in there within 20 yds of getting out of my kayak (orange circle). The yellow area is standing corn (for duck hunting). There is a dike with a pretty heavy trail with tracks (blue dotted line). I have found several beds (purple tents) and then there is a big bedding area in the NE corner (purple area). Most of the North side of this property is swampy with some standing water and a ton of browse. I think I could catch deer moving along that dike in the morning going back to bed or just milling around in the morning browsing between bedding areas. With a SW wind, it is almost bullet proof. It also doesnt put all my eggs in one specific basket (lone peninsula bed). Most of the human traffic is on the South side of the property and around the corn. I think they will feel pretty safe up in the North Swamp with the lack of human traffic and I haven't hunted that area since 2013. What do you all think?

Finally got out for first sit of the season! Good setup on a buck bedding area I found last winter. No fresh sign I pressed on through and basically set up on terrain. Saw zilch, heard zilch. Oaks are tough this year, I haven't found any acorns to speak of, but I KNOW somewhere there is an oak flat drawing every deer around. Gonna scout for it next week before I hunt again.

Great to be out again though! Dusted off some cobwebs setting up. First hunt in the Flex was comfortable. No complaints about that saddle. I think my Kite is going to gather some dust this year.

I did NOT like the oplux/jammy tether. Getting my HTP and ropeman 2 back out tonight.

Glad to hear you got some hang time! Sorry you didn’t get a booner...

Also, thanks for mentioning the oplux and Beal jammy combination vs HTP and ropeman. I use the HTP/RM combination and really like it but all the talk on here always gets me wondering if I’m missing out on something better! Will stick with my setup and fight off the urge to spend more money.

Planning some hang time tomorrow morning - supposed to be high winds, but they’ll be blowing in a good direction for me... I’m hopeful.

Nice going, DanielB! Is that your first out of the saddle? (Only asking since you said you’re loving it)

Way to put some points on the board for Team 10!

This is my 3rd deer out of a saddle, it's my first with my longbow out of my saddle.

I've been spending Oct trying to get my daughter a deer with her bow. First time shes bowhunter in decades. Nov hopefully I'll get some buck time in. I've passed on a 100 inch 8 pt and a few smaller bucks thus far. Cold here today as well 38 currently

Dave,
I tried to score this 1/1 point last night.. I am pretty sure he scored some where between 8 and 11. Either way, it's my best velvet buck and my only velvet buck. haha

I found two really worn trails that come together at a nice pinch point.

Enjoying some time practicing the system before next Tuesday. I found some kinks in the system that need to be corrected. I also got some weird looks by the neighbors and people walking their dogs. My wife didn't even see me when she drove in the driveway. When I spoke to her, she about jumped out of her skin.
