Team 10 Thread

Hi from the northwest portion of Michigan's lower peninsula. Our general season doesn't start until Oct 1'st but there's an early private land doe season I may try to get a couple of sits in on. I generally hunt remote from home three day weekends throughout October and then disappear from home/work for the first couple of weeks of November to really hit it hard during early rut. I spent the morning earning some brownie points with the wife by changing the brakes on her car.

Checking in from NJ. Been a bit of a rough start for me this year. We got hit hard by EHD. Found I think 11 dead deer this week, including my plan A and B bucks. Still have plans C-Z to work through though. Got some out of state tags in my pocket too and lots of time to hunt this fall, so I'm feeling pretty optimistic. I'll be hanging out this evening trying to put some points on the board in this wonderful 85° heat. I won't complain... that's probably November weather for @Weldabeast and @Fl Canopy Stalker
We had some EHD issues here a few years back, it really sucked. Good luck.

After a review of the hunting regs today I've discovered that the early private land antlerless season is this weekend (I thought it was next weekend). I'm going to head to some family property about 2 hours south tomorrow morning for an early hang. Hopefully I can fill a doe tag for 5 points.
Good luck! I hope you deflate one!

Skunked for opening morning ....conditions were tough.... the usual crossing points that are normally shin deep were over waist high and flooded pretty much the whole little property I have permission. Swirler winds and high water. I took me a while to find a way across the creek. I seen 4 does at first light but way too far and not on the property I can hunt. Later I heard something in the palmettos and I slowly worked over to investigate. I seen black so I drew the bow and waited.....then noticed the collar and then the waggy tail....ooppps, almost pierced Fido. Slow after the heater got up in the sky. That'll be it for opener for me....the babies got the sniffles and momma needs a hand. Going for big bucket points.....sorry hehe. I'll be in the saddle for the next 1...my back hurts...stupid bucket @Nutterbuster View attachment 52841View attachment 52842
Sounds like rough conditions. Not sure if the dog would’ve counted for points but glad you didn’t get em.

I had high hopes this morning. Property produced in the past....sorry guys. Hoping to get u some early points.... Lots of rain in the coming forecast so I'm gonna write that spot off for a while at least.
If there is an afternoon during the week I can sneak off that isn't raining I'll jump on the opportunity.... Quota hunt starts this coming Saturday on a wma I've never hunted. Only allows 20 peeps+ 1 guest each on 9k+ acres so very low pressure compared to other I hunt in....I promise I'll put in the work.. but can't guarantee u nothing except I'll be having fun and I'll probably post a silly picture or 2
I'm pretty inexperienced hunter but I have a higher than average work ethic so it seems to work out....

Well I shot a doe last night.... while standing at the base of my tree... Found a giant swamp chestnut oak absolutely raining acorns. Probably a 200 year old tree. Spent way too long trying to decide which tree to climb and she came in to munch on acorns as I was hanging my first stick. I hid behind the tree and she walked right to me and turned broadside at about 12 yards. Shot her and she took off running hard, tail tucked. Had a few hours of daylight left so I finished setting up to see if I could make it a double and put some points on the board. Had a doe and fawn come by at about 40-50 yards around sunset. They circled down into the bottom below me and I lost sight of them. It was getting dark and I was about to start packing up when I looked over and saw a deer working it's way towards me coming right from where I lost sight of the doe 15 minutes earlier. I drew back when the deer stepped behind a big tree, and by the time it popped out on the other side "she" had grown 3 inch velvet spikes! Lol. A little head bob probably saved that deers life, cause I don't think I would have seen those little spikes otherwise in the dark timber.

Way to go! Sounds like an exciting hunt!!!

The better news is I found an area that didn't seem to get hit as hard by EHD. Saw a ton of deer including a big mature 8 point while tracking/dragging that doe after dark.

Nice hunt! So does it still count if you were wearing your saddle even though yours weren’t in the tree yet?
