Team 10

Mine is not nearly as cool of a story. I almost didn’t go out cause it said 74 on my truck when I got out to the woods.

As I’m walking to my new spot I look down the power lines and 120 yards out steps a doe right off of the old logging road. This is the same old logging road that my tree is located off of. Anyway she walks off without noticing me. I was hoping something was going to be following her but nothing was.

As I’m setting up I see two does 75 yards off feeding away from me. This was all at 2 pm. Nothing more until 515 when I see probably the same two does 120 yards off on top of a ridge.

540 rolls around and I hear some crunching behind me and then a couple of brown streaks through the leaves. The first deer walks 30 yards from me downwind and continues on through so stuff that was to thick to shoot through. The second one comes in downwind and behind me. I was able to stand up and turn around on my platform.

She comes downwind to the trail I thought they would using to 7 yards. Her head behind a tree I draw back. My bow mAkes a sound I’ve never heard it make before, of course right. She bounds off to 30 where I still have a shot at her broadside. My slider is set at 20 so I hold a little high on her back and let her fly.

She bounded off and stopped after a couple of them and drops. As the best hunter known to mankind (Rut Daniels) says she didn’t go 20 lol. Turns out I got the heart guess I held right in the right spot. 34751B26-EFAC-477B-884E-14DE94CE03B5.png

Here is. Pretty sure the buck I shot few weeks ago. Hit him high right across the top. He's got a wound there. Any way he came out checking a doe right at sunrise. Hit him in the neck. He ran over and fell down. Thought he was dead. Got up 10 mins later and tried to walk. I ended up sending another at him, but was low. He ran another 20 yards and that's where I found him. Congrats! Nice deer!

Sorry for the long post here

Well boys... had a button buck under me for a while this morning and passed on him. Got in the stand late this afternoon, wasn’t even planning on sitting due to the heat around here lately. Within 5 minutes I hear crunching and look over my shoulder to see a big doe, thought to myself hope a big boy follows. As I’m thinking that I see a big rack coming through the thick stuff, with another doe behind him. They would up a creek to my right, right before he gets to my shooting lane the doe crosses the creek and of course he follows. I have a tight window, but a window nonetheless as he’s standing in the creek. I let one fly and just before the arrow hits him I see the knock jerk to the right, I must have hit a twig blending in with his body. The arrow sticks in the creek bank on the other side and Im ready to cut my tether because I’m thinking I missed. The buck jumps and bounds 30 yards and stops and stand still for about 3 minutes. The doe circles back around and he eventually gets back with her and they walk off. I get down to check the arrow and find maroon gritty fatty substance along the whole shaft with a little blood on the fletching. There’s no trail because he ran down the creek, but I go to where he was standing and find a good pile of bright red blood with some small bubbles. I call a few buddy’s to get their take on what they think due do findings in the arrow, blood and bucks reaction. We track for about 70 yards until he hits another creek and lose the blood. I walk where I think they went and after looking for 30 minutes we can’t find any blood trail. So as we turn to go back and start over, my buddy sees eyes looking at us about 50 yards away, after a few minutes it walks off slowly. I wasn’t going to walk over there due to being scared of bumping him if that was the buck, but since we didn’t have a trail after the creek I took a chance and found a good pile of blood where the deer was. We look up again and see him about 40 yards from us just watching us, picking his head up and down. We decide to back out and now I’m waiting. Planning on going back in around 11. Don’t want to wait til morning due to heavy rain rolling in just before light, and it’s about 70° out.
If you guys have any advice on what you would have done and what

Oh man. That's a tuff call. But I might have done the same thing. Bubbles can be good... Maybe hit him low? What kinda angle? Any hair?

He was slightly quartering away. And there was brown hair on the arrow. The blood trail while it was there was good. Not dumping out but it wasn’t pin drops

I think you're doing everything you can right now. I wouldn't be afraid to back out again rain or not when you go back in later if the sign is looking grim. I think I've lost a decent amount of deer on marginal shots due to my impatience. Daylight for tracking makes a world of difference even if it means a sleepless night. Good luck, I hope you have a quick recovery and if not maybe he'll be back!

Thanks! Let’s hope for the best. I’ll let you guys know how it goes

That blood also looks good to me but like everyone else is saying give it time. I’ve made that mistake before and it’s cost me.

Have you looked into a dog? Rain actually helps them smell better. If that deer didn’t wanna move off with you there my guess is he lays in his next bed til he dies. That’s unless you bump him. Idk what kinda rain you’re supposed to get but sounds to me like he was hurting pretty bad. He just needs time to expire. Tough call

Unfortunately dogs are illegal here. Supposed to rain pretty heavy so hopefully he’s not far from where I saw him last
