Opening day for me was a disaster. Had to wait for my buddy to get his @ss in motion in the morning so we were a little later getting in than I wanted to be. Just as I get set in my tree I get pictures sent to my phone of deer ~600 yards away having a party by one of my other cams that I was originally going to go to, but being late, I decided on the closer spot.

Then rain and wind started hitting hard. His dryer is broke and said he didn't want to get soaked in the morning and not be able to hunt in the afternoon (he didn't bring his rain gear). I told him my truck was unlocked (private property) and to grab a snickers because I was staying. A little later he sends me a message saying my truck was locked. I figured he was just messing with me so I ignored it. A little later the wind got even worse and really started to move the tree I was in. Never felt unsafe, but it was moving so much there would have been no way to get a shot on anything. I figured I would go back to truck and wait a little while for it to calm down. As I got to my truck I didn't see him sitting inside. Opened the topper to put my stuff in the bed and he was sitting in it. The doors were actually locked, with keys and my wallet inside.

Wife couldn't find spare key so she came to pick us up. I couldn't find it either - damn gremlins must have walked off with it! Had to get paperwork proving ownership and another form with photo ID for dealership to cut a new key. Several hours later we were heading back out to the farm. As were are pulling down there we see grain trucks and combine. They were just starting to cut these fields. Needless to say, we did not see anything the rest of the day. Now I am back at work today since they will be out in fields again. Worse opening I can remember, but at least I saved some PTO for another day.

@Jefferson10940 congrats of the double!

Oof! That's rough. Sounds about like when I hunt with my dad.. always running late lol. Your season should only be looking up from here on out!

When I hunt with my father in law he is always changing plans that make no sense. We get there just after sunrise and after an hour of sitting he's ready to get down lol save up that PTO and get after it another day!

We had a cold front move in which coincides with one of my days off and that hardly ever happens. I was invited to a friend's farm with little to no pressure and one of those areas you take a day off to get the chance to go.
We were sitting near a standing corn field to our north followed by a creek headed south and thick large bedding just a little more south. We set up basically between the creek and bedding with my friend 500 yds. west of me and we were both near trails to beds.
We had a crosswind hitting us from the west/northwest and temps. were in the mid 30s which I think kept them feeding a little later and the wind keeping our scent off the trail.
I started noticing does filtering back on the trail, followed by a young basket rack 4x4, a big mainframe 5x5 and the guy I was able to make a successful shot on. He mule kicked once, stood for a few seconds and dropped 5 yds away.
I think the buck I harvested was the older buck of the two just due to body size and temperament but I'm not 100% sure.
I wish good luck to my team and the other teams as it doesn't really matter since we're all hunters keeping the sport alive. I look forward to reading others experiences and stories in the next following weeks!

Awsome! I feel like a failure now. Only deer I saw I kicked up headed in for the evening hunt. I drove around when I went to lunch, and saw lots of corn standing. Never a good thing down there for early October hunting. Saw a nice rub up at the back side of the property. But didn't go back that way because the wind was wrong. Weather was up and down yesterday to boot. I think they were laying low until dark. All well. Got a lot of season left.

Anytime you're out hunting you're learning more! No failure there. I've been seeing all of the deer around here near edges of corn fields. The beans already turned so they've given up on them for now. We've had a drier than usual fall so water sources are a little more scarce too which makes it a little easier.

Congrats on a nice buck! First buck entered since the contest kicked off. The only other buck on the board so far was taken before teams were selected. Way to go @Jtaylor.

Crazy weekend for me here in MN.
Really only could have shot 1 deer, a basket rack 8, but saw a few. I think the wolves moved into one of my favorite spot on public because I saw no deer there and there were tracks everywhere. In my other spot I saw 5 including that 8, and I heard the craziest thing I've ever heard in the woods.

300 yards upwind I heard what sounded like something attacking a turkey. Then there was a lot of splashing in the swamp like it was a real struggle. Sounded like some barking so I thought maybe it was a coyote. But then I heard what sounded like a hiss roar like from a scene out of lion king. I have no idea what it was. Bobcat maybe but that hiss roar was like nothing I've ever heard in the woods there. I know there has been a very few cougar spotted in the general area, but no way to know for sure what it was.

Glad you made it out alive!
