Team 10

Alright guys a little mid week hunting going on. I got permission to hunt the bean field just south of my house. I climbed a tree tonight just to get an idea of where the deer are coming out. I saw 2 does 2 fawns. They came out of the swamp about 150 yards away. By sundown they were within bow range of a tree I scoped out earlier.

My concerns:
1) Im new to hunting in such close quarters. I grew up hunting a thousand acre cattle pasture so never really had to worry about property lines. This scenario, I own 2 acres and it's a 22 acre parcel with the crick being the property line. Ive double lunged deer before and they still go 200 yards. If she does that here, it'll be 3 land owners I need to talk to...

2) I don't have such a good relationship with the landowner. He gave me permission in the summer to hunt his property. So I hung a setup on the field edge. Went out the other night and his grandson had locked my platform, removed steps and left me a note saying I was trespassing. So I called him had the grandpa (landowner) didn't remember ever speaking to me. Long story short the grandson and I worked something out so I could hunt by my house.

3) With not having a great relationship with the landowner, I don't want to shoot a doe then he tells me I'm done. I think this could be an awesome rut property. No details have been worked out if I can shoot more then 1 deer, but I could see it being that way since the landowner doesn't seem too fond of me.

Can't be 100% sure, but I'm darn sure I heard a buck making a scrape in the crick bottom tonight. Didn't sound like squirrels scurrying, it sounded like a deer stomping then leaves moving. Never saw him though. But I did watch a 130 class 8 point on that bean field this summer.

Hmmm interesting situation. I would say it’s a gamble either way.
1.You can have a conversation with the land owner (grandfather) and ask how many deer, how long you are allowed to hunt the field, and hopefully he is open to you having a full season there.
2. You can shoot a doe, hope she doesn’t run through the whole neighborhood, and if she does ask each landowner and hope they say it’s okay if it happens again.
3. Wait for a monster just in case it’s a one and done spot.
Sounds like a situation to sleep on!

I mean if he told you he could hunt his property and didn’t give you limits to what kinds of deer or how many deer that’s on him. That being said, I wouldn’t fault you for trying to get it figured out in advance. If he hasn’t said no bucks to this point though, why would he say it after shooting a doe?

Tracking is another question. Either talk to the neighbors now or cross that bridge if it ever comes.

Sounds like a pickle though. Good luck

Well. I took tommorow off. Kinda nervous. Gonna be my first early morning set up with the saddle. Just gotta remember to take my time. Got me a head lamp that does green and red to hopefully not help me be seen as easily. Pretty good wind this evening. Might be knocking some acorns down. So probably gonna head for those. Chance for some rain. But not 100%. So gotta do it.

Good luck fellas! Season doesn’t open up until the 5th here. Been itching to get into the saddle for the first season. Glad to be a part of the saddle hunter community

I'll be out the next 4 days. Went tonight to one of my white oak spots. Apparently I was in the wrong one cuz my cellcam sent me this..smdh

Took me about an hour to walk 100rds from the truck and set up in the dark. Didn't help I picked a tree with a V. Had to double up the LB at the end. Real flaky oak tree. Dead quiet with wet ground. I made some extra noise. Booo. Al well. Made it safely. no deer yet.. Sunny skies and rain??? Michigan for yah.

Freezer queens opening morning ... last year I let everything walk and ended up eating tag soup. A long 10 months of having to deal with that so .... the result was any doe that gave me a shot was in trouble! Lol.
10 points. Now I’ll work on a buck

Opening day for me was a disaster. Had to wait for my buddy to get his @ss in motion in the morning so we were a little later getting in than I wanted to be. Just as I get set in my tree I get pictures sent to my phone of deer ~600 yards away having a party by one of my other cams that I was originally going to go to, but being late, I decided on the closer spot.

Then rain and wind started hitting hard. His dryer is broke and said he didn't want to get soaked in the morning and not be able to hunt in the afternoon (he didn't bring his rain gear). I told him my truck was unlocked (private property) and to grab a snickers because I was staying. A little later he sends me a message saying my truck was locked. I figured he was just messing with me so I ignored it. A little later the wind got even worse and really started to move the tree I was in. Never felt unsafe, but it was moving so much there would have been no way to get a shot on anything. I figured I would go back to truck and wait a little while for it to calm down. As I got to my truck I didn't see him sitting inside. Opened the topper to put my stuff in the bed and he was sitting in it. The doors were actually locked, with keys and my wallet inside.

Wife couldn't find spare key so she came to pick us up. I couldn't find it either - damn gremlins must have walked off with it! Had to get paperwork proving ownership and another form with photo ID for dealership to cut a new key. Several hours later we were heading back out to the farm. As were are pulling down there we see grain trucks and combine. They were just starting to cut these fields. Needless to say, we did not see anything the rest of the day. Now I am back at work today since they will be out in fields again. Worse opening I can remember, but at least I saved some PTO for another day.

@Jefferson10940 congrats of the double!
