Team 10

I got out Saturday on the new piece of public I've been picking apart. Dove in a little farther since the wind was right. Found some good trails, poop, and beds right past two transition lines that run together. Set up there in a pine with awesome cover. Of course as I set my platform my release falls to the ground lol. Got set up and the wind was supposed to be SW. When it wasn't gusting it was SE, when the gusts came through, straight E. That took out about half of where I thought deer could be coming from but I wanted to see if anything would show from farther in. They did not. Blanked on the evening. I did set up a trail cam though so hopefully that won't disappear and I can gain some info. I'll be out again on Saturday on what looks like a great cold front coming in.

Hey, where in second place. Just a few points out. I know there is lots of hunting left. Put I just got back from the last family camping trip. Temps are dropping some. Leaves are falling. Talked to guy who manages the farm down were I hunt and he has seen a big wide 8pt floating around. Unfortunately I went on call for a week for work. But hopefully I can sneak a evening or two out.

I’m on call for the next 2 weeks....

Headed out tomorrow for a quota muzzle hunt. Had a cold front blow through this afternoon with decent rain, and tomorrow is to really cool off! High is only 84, with a low of 72....Today was a high of 88 and a low of 76! The rut is at the tale end but hopeful there will still be decent movement. Winds will be up at 16-20 with gusts to 27, so should be a good time to slip around and find some sign and get set up quietly. Must be 3 on a side or 10" beams to be legal...no does! Good luck all!

Hopefully some critters start moving soon! Some of this area was mowed to prep for burning a couple months ago. Set up on the downwind edge hoping they moved out of the thicker palmettos to feed in the mowed area. To wet to see anything other than a few decent trails...

Cold front came through yesterday and I got out tonight. Decided to go to a new spot on my little private piece that I’d seen a ton of intersecting trails through and knew does were frequenting every day. It’s been a big green field and standing corn. Had a deer come in on me while I was setting up, saw several in the next couple hours, and then heard a loud deep cough around 5:30. Knew it was a deer and figured it was a buck. Kept looking that way, towards the corn, but it’s so thick in there I couldn’t see anything. Thought I hear branches shaking like a deer was pulling leaves off, then thought I could hear acorns being crunched. Finally I peeked around a tree in front of me and saw a buck I had on camera raking a tree in a big ditch. Just going to down. I grunted at him when he stopped and he looked my way before going back to thrashing the tree. When he stopped again I gave him one more grunt. He stared my way then turned and started coming. Drop shot of course lol. I got my bow and got turned around as he took his time moseying in. Finally he went behind a big tree and I drew. He stepped into my clearing at 15 yards and I let her rip. Double lunged and got to watch him crash about 60 yards away. My first archery deer from the saddle. An 8 with no brows. 168# dressed. 18” behind the ears. I’m pumped.

Cool looking buck! Are you guys growing whitetail-mule deer hybrids up there?
