Team 10

Got after them again today, decided to do a little bit of still hunting. Wasn’t in the woods 10 minutes and I got my eyes on a doe, couldn’t get the shot off, so I concentrated on where she was coming from but no more deer. When I got up to where she was at I could see that there was another deer with her BUT in front of her.

Anyways it was an awesome day, no bucks were seen, but I found a bunch of ting activity that was fresh finally.

Got a couple new stands picked out for late season, and I have some high hopes for one of them for sure.

Finally saw my first buck of the season, I sat on the ground because there wasn’t a tree that I could really get into in this pine swamp. I scouted this big Community scrape a couple of times, decided to set up on it yesterday. About midday I turned around to check the back door, and to my surprise and this big bucks’ surprise, he was standing 20 feet from me, TOPS! Unfortunately he saw me turn my head and immediately busted out. I tried swinging my gun over and taking a shot at him, but it was so thick he vanished inside of a few seconds.

And then to top it off, a lone Doe came down the main trail at 35 yards with about 10 minutes left of light, and I missed L O L there was a few branches in the way, but I thought I was able to feed it through there, apparently not. I tracked her for a good hundred yards and there wasn’t a single drop of blood anywhere, and she was walking.

Definitely one of the best sits of my life, after searching for a good place on public with all sorts of buck sign all season long, I finally got it and sat the perfect wind, saw the buck, he just outsmarted me I guess. If I was sitting in a tree stand I might’ve had a chance at him, but those are the brakes.

I’m gonna go back into that spot in the next day or two see if I can figure out a way to get a tree stand into one of these pine trees.E98DBE42-A456-4669-8F61-6F203F6D57FF.png

Ok, I went out this morning and sat over one of my primary scrape locations. They really are not working them hard yet. It was a misty, on and off rainy day so I expected some movement. I had 2 does come in to check out the area at 11:45 AM. Then I had a dang dog baying and running around through the wood this evening. That may have hurt deer movement. A little over 8 hours straight in the saddle today.

It'll come together eventually. You're certainly putting in the time! I'm hoping to get out Saturday even if only for a couple hours. December's usually my slowest month and then I'll get back after it a bit in January before the season ends

Yeah the weather is just not right to get them going good yet. I haven't seen many scrapes and no rubs. It is a weird season so far. It is about 70 degrees here this morning and very humid. One of those days where the concrete sweats.

I love to be out hunting but I feel like I am letting the team down not putting something on the board. I was kicking myself the other day after getting a picture of that buck I let pass on the first day I hunted, but then I reminded myself that I can't expect to have 130's if I kill them when they are 115' or 120"s. That said, late season he better not come parading by me again, lol.

I'm waiting for things to get right here and then do some marathon hunts and hopefully produce.

Don't worry about the team. Just have fun and shoot what you want. If the team benefits that's secondary

I gave the deer and woods a rest during our Muzzleloader season the last 12 days, and got back after them the last couple days. I just about dusted the 1st doe today, but I caught myself and wanted to still wait for a buck. I had 3 does in front of me later, passed again AND then made up my mind shortly after if I go again, anything goes. Freezer filling time AND if that is a buck great, if not, a Doe/any deer is on the list again.

I also visited a spot I had on my OnX Maps, turned out it was no hunting zone on public land! Hartwick pines, this is a piece of land that a widow gave to the people of Michigan back during World War I when her husband was killed. It is the only acreage in Michigan that didn’t get timbered during the 1800s and early 1900s. Pretty cool super old pines

My season ended on the 15th. I was sick for about a week and a half during the last half of November and couldn't hunt. Ruined my rutcation but I was able to hunt the last 2 days of the season but I struck out.

Bummer.

Man, sorry to hear that. Don't worry, rest up and start dreaming of next fall.

Yup. I had a video from out behind the house of my target buck too. 5:22 am. Just before daylight chasing a doe. He's a big 10 pt. with 2 stickers off the base of his left g2.

Maine's deer season ends on the 15th of December?
The Midcoast area I live in has what they call an expanded archery season from around Sept. 10th to Dec 15th because it's a built up area now and there are very few places to gun hunt. I can take a buck and as many does as I want. I can also shoot another buck anywhere statewide using my regular archery tag. That season runs the month of Oct. but you can also use your bow during the firearm season statewide.

Man, I'm spoiled. Our season starts around the same time but we can hunt all the way through January
