Nice shot!

Man you guys have got me itchy to get out. Our season opens Saturday but unfortunately it’s looking like the hurricane washout might bring rain. Hoping I can get a few hours in anyway

Set up on a trail coming back from food to bedding. Was pretty sure a group of bucks liked to use this trail but it was my first hunt there. Got up early as crap and made the half mile walk. Was to my tree a little after 5. Took my time trying to be super quiet climbing up. Got settled and the sun started to rise. Thermals were being super weird and the wind wasn’t doing what it was supposed to. He came in around 6:45-6:50 exactly where I thought he would. Came straight to the base of the tree before walking down the hill behind me. I didn’t think I was ever going to get a shot and had been holding for about a minute at my 6:00 position. Finally let down and he of course turned broadside. Drew back and stopped him at the same time. Settle the pin, checked the bubble, checked the pin again and let her eat. Impact sounded like I was busting concrete and the arrow was in him as he ran off. Initially I thought it was a bit forward and a bit low but the longer I sat the more I thought the height was perfect. I was worried I was too far forward though but he ran off absolutely destroying brush and looked to be bulldozing along down through the bottom. I thought I had heard a crash but I couldn’t see and then I thought I heard more movement after the crash. Waited an hour and decided to get down. Of course I got down and couldn’t get my rappel rope down lol so back up I went. Finally gathered my things and it was about 9am. Walked to impact, looked for blood, looked downhill and saw belly. Couldn’t believe it. Absolutely drilled him. The single best thing I’ve ever done for my hunting and confidence is build my own arrows. The vital V is where it’s at. I did not hit the front shoulder but went through the beefiest part of the offside shoulder. That leg was jelly. I got near side lung, clipped the heart, and all kinds of goodies in between. You didn’t need a blood trail because there was just a mowed down path but the blood trail was fantastic. Thrilled with this hunt and the shot.

Now that's a perfect shot! You lied to us though. You said he was an eight pointer:tearsofjoy: What broadhead did you use? How did it hold up?

Thanks! Really pumped with it. Lol I know! Shouldn’t make assumptions. Iron will double bevel. I have 0 doubt that I could put it right back in my quiver and hunt with it again but I couldn’t find it. Broadhead must have been sticking out of his left side and fletching out of the right. I’m assuming they both shot off to space as he ran. I looked hard and didn’t find either side. Even with pink and white fletchings

Awesome story and photos. How far was the shot? Nice buck by the way.

Very nice!! Unfortunately our weekend opener didn't go as well as we had dreamed. To start I'm greeeeeeeeennnnnnnnn to saddle hunting. It takes me forever to get set up and while setting up Saturday evening 2 doe came up 20yds and spooked. Got in tree and one came back in a monsoon and fed 15yds with brush in way. Finally comes out heading wide open woods I get drawn settling the pin and she turns to go straight away for good. Yesterday morning I saw several turkey and no deer. The afternoon hunt didn't go as planned because of lack of sign to set up on and what little acorns I did find I couldn't find a tree I had confidence to get set up in so scouted til dark. This morning on public land where it's very illegal myself and a buddy found 4 different corn piles and feed blocks with cell cams set up so with zero confidence to sit over a handful of acorns in those conditions we left.

Wife hunted at the house and managed to arrow the 8+yr old buck she went there to shoot with less then happy results. Got about 8" of penetration with broadhead and outsert missing. She stayed put and when I got there to look I found good blood like oh yeah we about to walk up on him blood. Arrow had bubble and where he stopped was a pile of bubbly foamy blood the size of my boot. Ended up finding 4 spots he laid down in 200yds across the the mountain. Last spot had no blood and couldn't tell a direction so walked all over to no avail. I'm betting only had one lung and high. She ended up hunting from the ground this morning. Rough day for her.

Check it out guys. 13 more points for team 10. This is the buck I passed on the other night. Tempted me again tonight at 23 yards broadside and I caved. Double lunged him and he only went 30 yards and just stood there for a few seconds until I asked him out loud ‘’ Are you gonna fall over or not?’’ He then proceeded to flip upside down
