TEAM 11 Discussion Thread

I posted this on the Bonehead moves thread figuring it would get a laugh. All it got was blanks.
Maybe our team might get a laugh. Al this is true. the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

On Saturday, my quiver popped off my bow when it got caught in brush as I was pulling it up. Rappelled down then ascended back up RADS. With one stick it would have been brutal. I descended and ascended one more time, I can't remember why. I am convinced I chose the right climbing method.
On Tuesday, I went into the thick stuff at 8:30AM. I shot a doe at 10:30 AM. Left my rope tethered up the tree while tracking. Found deer and gutted. Did not have a drag rope. Put crossbow on ground. Dragged deer ahead 30 yards down deer trail by hand. Went back to get crossbow and moved it ahead of deer 30 yards. Repeat 5X then came to horse trail and proceeded to drag deer by hand down horse trail. Have to go get my rope and stuff to the right. Hey, where is my crossbow? Go back to deer trail to get crossbow. Drag deer with right hand holding bow in left hand. Nerve shock runs through right arm. Take right into thorny brush to get rope and pushpole. Did remember to tie my red gear hanger to the tree nearest to where the deer was when shot. Retrieved rope and pushpole and went back out to horse trail, tied deer to rope and dragged her out. Another uneventful hunt. :grinning:
Haha that is a lot of moving around holy cow

It all occured within half a football field. The brush and thorns were thick. I could see about 3 yards at ground level. I think I shot the doe at 10 to 15 yards hanging from an 8 inch diameter tree. Three doe came through first a medium and two small. Then about minute later this one. She was picking her way through the brush when she hit a significant limb and I heard a bump. She was knocked back. I almost laughed. She stood for about a minute behind some light brush and looking down the way they were going I realized this was going to be the best shot I would get so I took it.

Ok, fixing to go swing from a tree. Only my 2nd hunt of the season. And only my 2nd saddle hunt ever. Had a really nice doe get by me 2 weeks ago from this same stand. Hoping the Father above smiles on my fortunes today! Hunting a hillside transition between ag field and bedding. Hope you all have a blessed day!

Good luck. I'm packing up my bags right now to head up to northern minnesota after work

My season is not starting out too great, however there is still plenty of time. My foodplots have basically all withered away due to a lack of rain and super high temperatures. My "Money" stand where I normally see a dozen or so deer per sit, I've seen 1 deer in 2 sits. But if it were easy they'd call it "Killing" instead of hunting.

Keep at it! Find the new food sources and keep playing the game. Sometimes patterns change but you can figure em out. High temperatures means a need for water and cool shaded bedding!

Will do, this isn't the first time things haven't went my way. I just spent some money on more seed, fixed my water tank to water my plots with. There are plenty of acorns falling already, and my money spot is all white oaks and persimmons butted up to two draws and a small foodplot. Our property line is the middle of a major river system. Plenty of water within 50yards of my stand. I've just got to stay the course and try the other couple of draws until this one gets hot again. Thanks for the advice. This forum sure is loaded with some good folks

Well team Im sitting in bed at the cabin and I just got an advisory for the first frost of the year on my phone. Looks like I'm gonna pull up on a nice acorn flat in the morning since most of the green forage is gonna be toast after this. Im pretty excited about it should get the deer up and moving

The weather in Iowa is dropping down into the low 40's nxt Wednesday thru Friday. Should be good conditions for buck movement

I bumped a huge one up out of his bed on the edge of a cattail swamp around midday but he was halfway to timbuktu in the middle of the catails before I could get my bino on him. Hard to tell but Im guessing he was a ten point. Pulled a couple cool trail camera photos though

I wish, I'm at work studying for my test. I only have Friday available to hunt. It's supposed to be 95 degrees and muggy. But going to give a pinch point between 2 foodplots and bedding a shot.
