Good news.....

Bad news.....it was in the 80’s today so I took the easy way out and sat in the condo.

Congrats!

I decided to try a property yesterday that I haven’t hunted since 2016. Scouted my way through and now I remember why I stopped hunting there. I found a 2 person ladder stand and 3 hang on stands in a matter of about 500 yards. Jumped a little dink within the first 50 yards after diving in off the hiking trail.

Had limited time today so did some scouting on a piece that doesn’t open up to hunting until Nov 15. The sign was awesome. Rubs and scrapes everywhere. I scouted through there like a bull in a china shop and tracked down a couple buck beds. Will have to see how the pressure is come Nov 15.

Congrats to everyone that is getting it done!

Well finally got in a tree today. No deer seen yet but did have some hogs come in. Learning the saddle and getting more comfy in it. So far I like it. Missed agog this morning...made a good shot just had my yardage wrong. Looked true all the way and ended u ppl just under him. I think I actually nicked him by the way he acted. Shot felt good though. Shot him for about 20 or a shade over and he was at 27.

Well I took the advice of going into a new area. Yesterday, we had to leave work for an hour so they can test the fire suppression and alarm systems. So I took a quick ride to an area I've been wanting to get into, its public bordering a state game lands. I stopped on the side of the highway, and didnt make it into the woods before I found first sign..... I was wearing waders and it was raining so I am not terribly worried about scent, but I didnt stay long. I needed to look around a little bit so I jumped over the trail and peeked around a bit, found 4 scrapes and a handful of rubs, then I saw him.. a solid 9 just outside his ears, feeding in daylight 85 yards away not 40 yards off the highway. I back out immediately and slowly he never knew I was there, but I'm gonna stay out for a few days then get a plan together to get after him.. I'm hunting out of state friday and sunday then next week I'll be trying to figure him out! There's no hunting pressure in the immediate area but the property does border state land so I need to be aggressive I'm just gonna have to figure out how to be aggresive and not blow it. Anyway, hope yall are having a great season! Keep knocking them down!

That is awesome! Nothing like finding an overlooked spot that is holding a good buck. Let the cat and mouse game begin and have fun figuring out how to get in there undetected and kill him.

Guessing the rut is starting to pick up in PA like it is here in WI so I wouldn’t wait too long to go after him or he might be off in the next county seeking his first flathead.

Couple more nights at work and we are on vacation for a few weeks. I plan on doe hunting Friday night at the farm where I shot my buck. Going to get Sabrina a few dry runs this week in the saddle and her first hunt will be on Sunday.. I have a really good farm I planned to take her too that hasn’t really been touched. But scapes at another one are staring to heat up. See what the wind is but things appear to be getting ready to cut loose.

Quick clean kill he was dead where I heard him crash.. he came in from behind me and by the time I heard him with the soft wet leaves he was directly behind me at 15 yard. He was down in a ravine so it was a pretty steep shot angle. By the time I saw him he was smelling my path I walked in on I spun around thought he was decent and let one fly.. He’s a decent 3.5 year old but I’m a little disappointed had I seen him walk in and had time to evaluate I wouldn’t have probably shot him. But everything happens for a reason and I’m happy I made a good shot on him.. on too doe patrol and maybe an out of state trip now.

Ya know what man, I been thinking and uh I’m pretty sure Ol’ Sabrina would much rather have a nice week long retreat alone with her man so uh just go ahead and PM me the address and I’ll house sit for ya while y’all are gone.

Well, I am taking off this friday, gonna pull my first all day sit this year. It's looking like I have a good wind for a funnel/cruising route that produced pics of good deer halloween weekend each of the passed 2 years. I'm also gonna do an all day sit somewhere on sunday, it's supposed to be a changing wind from am to pm so I'll have to move in the middle of the day, but I think if I make a plan ahead of time and adjust in the woods if needed ill have a head start... but no plan survives first contact! So let's just say I'm gonna give an all out effort this weekend having two days to pull all day sits. Hope yall can get out this weekend, if not I hope yall have a great weekend anyway! Good luck, hunt smart, and be safe!
