Well boys I’m so happy for my old man. This is his first buck over 120” at 69 years young.. unfortunately my dad doesn’t fall into our saddle Hunter community lol. he shot this stud sitting in a deer blind he made from my kids old bus stop shack. Wearing his blue Jean bib overalls and smoking a pipe. Deer was around 30 yards slightly quartering he drove one up through chest into the cavity he ran around 80 yards.

I did see a piebald tonight she’s been at the farm for at least 5 years but must be a dwarf she had two yearlings with her but they didn’t have any white on them.

Unofficial score on my dads buck was 169 2/8, 163 net.. My wife and I went out tonight and worked our way through a new piece. Never ended up setting up. We sat on the predators for a little bit overlooking a big hay field. Saw 4 does while hunting a ton of scrapes, good trails but not a lot of rubs. We left early to drive around check some fields and saw two bucks locked on does. Going to try the other side of the road tomorrow.

Good weekend for us! I got out friday and monday. High winds both days and rain on friday. Got into a leeward bowl to get out of the wind. Had a good 10 point pads me 3 separate times and would not stop. He passed me the second time pushing a doe, I even yelled hey at him and he didnt even move his ear in my direction... saw 5 buck friday 3 being shooters just no shots or out of range. I did shoot a big Male coyote though, came slinking through around 8am.
I went into the same relative area monday, only 500-600 yards away. Setup on a real tight pinch point thinking they be moving through that area to stay out of the high winds... had a descent 8 come in from behind me, I let him pass my tree thinking I could try to grunt him back once I could grab my bow and get positioned. It worked well he came right back to 30 yards, I took the shot only to cut a sapling in half that i didn't notice was there. Clean miss. He boggie outa there and made a big fuss about it.... my arrow was on track to be a great shot... so I pulled out, checked 2 cameras on the way out and well I'm just missing these deer by like a couple hours, or one day things like that....
This is the one I missed...

Coyote!

And some of the big fellas running around in the area on those 2 cams....

And this guy....

I'm thinking I may have screwed the area up, but I dunno I've only been in that relative area twice now. I dont know if its worth making another sit in there or not, the pictures tell me it's worth it but they are of the past so I dont really know what to do.... good luck to all still in it, get after them and hunt safe!

Get in there and get after them now is the time they aren’t thinking clearly.. I walked 25-30 yards from 110” 8 point locked on a doe off the side of the road yesterday. Wife didn’t want to shoot him but could have easily.

Listening to the wired to hunt podcast they are literally preaching this. October hunts and late season your best sit is the first sit, but during the rut beat it to the ground while it's hot. I havent put that perspective to it. I've, for a couple years now, considered a spot pretty much done after one or two sits, 3 in a perfect situation. I spooked that buck when I shot, so I automatically put it in my head that the spots done. He made a pretty big fuss about it. The amount of bucks I got on camera and the number of does that blew those cameras up, it's a safe bet to say it's hot. Based off what i saw this weekend, I'm gonna get back in there. I just now need to figure out another plan of attack to utilize a different wind then I've hunted there before....

My dad missed that buck he killed on Saturday and killed him Monday. Sitting in a shack he put out two weeks ago. He drove the side by side 20 yards from that shack and parked it in the brush.. Now is definitely the time to get away with pushing the limits a little more. I don’t know about calling it quits on a stand after 1-3 sits I think a lot more has to do with access.

Well, long day today! It started out looking like I may had screwed things up again. I got in to the spot only 20 mins early this time, well before first like I mean. I had two steps in the tree and I was hanging my third when I had deer rolling through they passed me inside 20 yards it looked like a smaller buck and a big doe. I hugged the tree and they passed me no issues. Then I get to hunting height, wasnt even setup when the big boy rolled through. I couldn't tell what he was except that he was big bodied and had real big antlers.... 10 mins later I would have been able to shoot him, it would have been light enough. I had deer chasing all around me, bucks grunting all around me. Well at 750 I had a real small 3 point, then a spike and doe roll through, again inside 20. This particular spot is turning out be a killer pinch. Then it all went dead until 910. I had a relatively small 7 point roll through at 17, I get him to stop and make a great shot. He bounds 2 time and is done.
*Edit* I hunted all day yesterday I was tired typing this...... sorry.

Saw 5 this evening. Had 1 unknown move through around 1645. Then had a doe and 2 fawns come up behind me around 1715 and a 6 pt came out 5 minutes later and he walked 3 yds from my tree.

Sabrina did her first solo run in the saddle today. I took our 3 year old to sit in my dads blind/kill condo. She almost sealed the deal on a 2.5 year old 10 point. She wasn’t watching the crp field and she saw him as he was crossing to the scrape and camera. I was getting pics on my phone waiting for the txt. Nothing came in she said he was two steps from getting shot and he caught her wind/ground scent. She ended up making a perfect shot on a button buck that she thought was a doe. Me and the little one saw a 8 point breed a doe and two more does nothing in range as she’s a noisy hunting partner.

Anyone going to be hunting in the monsoon coming Wed thru the Carolinas? I have a planned day off with my son to hunt and now it’s forecasting 2.5” of rain during that 24 hour period

I went exploring in a little spot near the house (sneaking in) near houses. Found some nice rubs and a scrape. I will try after it comes thru maybe??I know its too damn warm for sure

I think this storm is blowing in more tropical heat than it is tropical moisture.

Still trying to get the wife on a buck in Ohio. Back to work on Monday for me. I have learned that setting a tree for two saddle hunters is much easier on a fresh set, trying to use some of my preset trees has been a PITA. I scouted some ground today that I haven’t been on but had gained access too found some great sign. Tonight we r sitting on a freshly cut corn field next to a bedding area.
