Rushed the shot, was in a thicket and he was close from downwind of me and about to cross my scent trail. He came behind me so it was a freehand shot.

You shot without aiming? What exactly is a free hand shot?

Walked 4.5 miles this afternoon trying to find anything resembling a deer. Didn’t bump anything or find any promising sign. Ended up setting up on a field edge by the parking area on the off chance I got lucky. I did not.

Im planning to sleep in tomorrow so this concludes my park hunt. Not sure I’ll do this one again but it was good experience. Next weekend muzzleloader starts and I’ll be out on Sunday with one of my smoke poles!

Had a yearling spike and doe walk into the food plot at first light and start feeding. I didn't want to shoot a spike and was on the fence about the doe. Watched them feed for 20 minutes or so not paying much attention, rather I was scanning the wood line for something better. I decided to shoot the doe and get home early cause I had some work to do today. Put the crosshairs on target, squeeze, dead deer. Dropped in its tracks. I get down and walk over to drag it in the woods so I can let my dog try and blood trail it. Wouldn't you fricking know it.............a damn spike. How did I miss that. Oh well got some meat. I would have rathered use a buck tag on a kill that at least got my heart rate up just a bit. Oh yeah since I didn't have much time this morning I just walked in and jumped in the boxstand so It didn't even help out my team. Thank God for long season and late rut. I should contribute eventually.Screenshot_20201121-182814_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20201121-182833_Gallery.jpg

Well after 21 days out of town for work I was finally able to get out in the woods. Accessing my hunting land with my New to me Jon boat my dad gave me this year. I had a about 20 minute boat ride that turned into about 30. I got out and took a poo then creeped my way up the bank. I walked not 40 yards (it’s right at or a little after first light) when I stopped and heard a deer walking up from behind. I quickly threw my release on and nocked and arrow. The path the deer was coming wouldn’t have given me much of a shot. I tried to sneak behind a tree but got picked off(well not really). The deer bounced off to about 20 yards and made a wide north around me. IT WAS A BUCK! He was pretty calm and didn’t seem too spooked. He stopped at 25 and was looking at me but looked away after a 30 second staring battle. He seemed unconcerned. All I could see was his head and antlers. He walked a little bit further and I could see he was a nice 8 point. I picked my spots and was waiting for him to step into the opening. As soon as he got there he didn’t stop and somehow caught my wind and took off blowing. I climbed a tree not too far off and am enjoying the beautiful morning! Can’t beat buck sightings. Anyone hunting this morning?F0B130C1-8F5A-48EC-A909-2D4AEA65BE79.png

Looks tasty! I’d take one like that right about now!

I was gonna take my daughter(10) this morning to try and get her first deer. She has not shown to much interest in hunting but said she wanted to go. We went and shot the AR yesterday and at 100 yards she did good with a non- magnified reflex sight. Woke her at 5 and she said "can we just go this evening", lol. I decided to stay in this morning and process yesterday's kill. Good luck @gcr0003, and anyone else that is out there

I went yesterday afternoon looking for a doe since it was a doe day. All I saw was one bucks antlers. Couldn’t see the deer at all and then he vanished. Hunting a thicket. This afternoon I’ll take the saddle and get closer to where he was and went but I’m not very optimistic that he shows. Guess we’ll find out in a few hours.

Are doe days not the dumbest thing ever? We get 3 doe tags, 2 buck, and one either sex. Who cares if you fill them on a certain Saturday or Sunday? Makes no sense. If you want less doe killed then just limit how many in that area that can be killed. I swear there are some really stupid experts.
