The rut was a bust for me this year--there was an unusually warm, windy spell during my entire time off from work. Things got so bad, I used some of my time off to help my wife paint the kitchen.

Friday begins my annual up-North vacation/meat hunt/rifle season. If I don't put some points on the board then, you guys can come to my house and shoot me.

The rut was a bust for me this year--there was an unusually warm, windy spell during my entire time off from work. Things got so bad, I used some of my time off to help my wife paint the kitchen.

Friday begins my annual up-North vacation/meat hunt/rifle season. If I don't put some points on the board then, you guys can come to my house and shoot me.

You don’t have to worry about anyone showing up at your house armed. At least not before New Years.

Look who took point leader! That is until @tree_ghost boiler rooms a doe and ties it up!

Some solid bucks so far guys and I am proud to be part of this team, keep up the good work. I leave for a week long island hunt the day after Thanksgiving where we will be putting down some serious weight. Last years total was 34 deer in a week, this year we are going to break that.

I've passed up so many little guys this season. Still have a solid 4 or 5 weeks to knock down a big boy. Might shoot a doe with the smoke pole in ny too.

@EricS Do you know if Tethrd plans on doing anything about the adjustment balls on the Phantom's bridge loops blowing through the webbing? I'm slowly losing them one by one on the first season, which sucks cause I really love the saddle. If the bridge loops were just plain webbing they would perform better. Also, mine are fraying like a mf. Kind of nerve racking when these things are blowing out of the webbing and the webbing is fraying on your support system in just a couple months of use. I'd appreciate any info if you got it! Thanks!

I thought they were replacing the saddles that that has happened to. When you say fraying you are talking about the piece of tubular where the balls came out? Take some pictures and try to contact them through the website. If you haven’t heard anything in a few days let me know.

The weather has been either too hot or too windy and rainy. We had major power outages Sunday (luckily not in my community) but many around. Our regular firearms season opener is Saturday hoping to get another buck and for sure some does. Busy at work while we lead up to the Thanksgiving holiday. Which, by the way everyone, Happy Thanksgiving!! We are still able to do what we love for the most part! Even though the world seems to be getting more and more unsettling in many ways, I praise the Lord and give thanks for what we have here in this great country of ours. Especially hunting!!!!

I am just curious, I am not trying to make anyone mad. What's everyone's take on red's recent buck. That lower "point" isn't even as big as his fingernail and the "brow" tine is definitely questionable.

Me personally, I would like to see a tape on it, with a cross reference piece of tape going across the beam.

I know he's only upgrading from a 7 to an 8, which is 1 point, but you can bet your ass if that one point matters in the end, someone may bring it up!

Not just him though, I have seen a few questionable posts with bucks lately that I would like to see a tape on. Input?

Ha ha. Anytime you time in bold saying you’re not trying to make anybody mad people get ticked. Doesn’t even matter what the rest of the post says.
Scott hasn’t won a contest since he started having them. I would let him have the point either way. Then again maybe he’s trying to make a point.
One of the biggest things I’ve seen rule wise is the lack of the person in the picture. If you have a certain post count you don’t have to have the saddle in the picture but no one ever waved the requirement for the person to be in the picture. That said I have submitted some very poor pictures in the past and never had a problem. It’s really just for fun and bragging rights. It’s also given me a reason to start taking pictures of deer to help me remember when Alzheimer’s starts kicking in.
Unless someone starts dropping the hammer that one point isn’t going to matter for us anyway.

It’s really just for fun and bragging rights.

This says it all. The biggest benefit for the contest is to create camaraderie and interaction between members who may not otherwise interact with each other. Realistically its not worth anyone's time (or the potential for hard feelings) to question how someone rates or feels about the buck they shot. The contest is just for entertainment purposes and a point or two aren't going to make a difference in anything going on in the world today. There have been two posts questioning "small" points and both of those affected teams are well out of the running in the grand scheme of things.

I guess what I'm trying to say is let's not get to wound up about the contest and remember its just about celebrating each other's success as hunters (from a guy who can't seem to buy a deer this year).
