Thanks couldn’t figure out how to get the list over and tag anyone. This actually 4th yr in saddle but 1st in contest. Have been scouting some with cams out but haven’t checked yet
Different can definitely be a good thing! i'm expecting a steep learning curve this yr though between being new to public lands, new to saddle hunting, using the kayak as access a fair amount, and living in a new region. Still excited to get started though!Different can be a good thing tho! Both water access and hunting from a saddle has totally changed my odds for the better. If this buck does not count cuz I wasn't thinking clearly I apologize in advance boys...
16 feet is high enough, yeah 25 is nicer but before I got this saddle I almost never got that high and still killed things. Just have to be careful because it's a little easier to be winded or spotted moving. Pick a tree that has a little cover to mask your movements.I did my first non-practice sit yesterday after work for about 2 hours. Well, it was basically a practice sit since I made as much noise as basically shooting off fireworks on the way in and out but oh well. Notes from that are...
1) Man it can be hard to manage getting 4 sticks up a tree without making noise. But 4 only get me to 16 ft because I've been gifted with vertical limitations. And I'm not messing with aiders till I get super comfortable. 16 is probably enough?
2) It can be tricky to climb, when you're wearing your business casual work khakis underneath some not oversized camo pants.
3) I might need to redo my stick strap storage method, lost one on the way back to my car.
4) Just because you can make it up a narrow tree, doesn't mean you should.
5) I got to try answering nature's call (#1) in a saddle for the first time and stayed clean!
I mentioned I'm still new to hunting (only got 1 deer so far), and would be fine with a doe to start with, but I wouldn't mind this guy...
