TEAM 16 Thread 2019

Just for reference...

PA starts early in WMU 2B (and a few others, basically all the higher population WMUs) Saturday the 21st. Not sure if I'll be out for it, gonna try.

Been spending so much time trying to practice with my bow and saddle that I haven't spent any time scouting. Given how new I am to everything (the bow and the saddle), just hoping to pick up a doe, and anything that happens after that is just a bonus.

Thanks couldn’t figure out how to get the list over and tag anyone. This actually 4th yr in saddle but 1st in contest. Have been scouting some with cams out but haven’t checked yet

I tagged everyone for you.

(Sorry for anyone annoyed with the notifications).

Best of luck guys. Have a safe and successful season!

Checking in from Louisiana we open on Oct 15. I take it this is the all rookie group?

Yes out of a saddle but it's a long story and I posted that over in the Successful Hunts section about it. I quartered up and pack the buck out way back in the swamp so when these pics were taken I had none of my hunting gear with:disappointed: I still have his head caped out at my house, do you think it would be allowed if I take a day pic with it on my pack and make sure my saddle is in the pic? Think that would count?

I would take a pick of the saddle with the caped out buck and post i with this picture and a short note about how you didnt have your gear with you when you recovered the deer (or however it played out. Im going to go read your story once im done here) I would expect you get credit but if not its not a big deal. Either way Congrats!

Thanks, ya it all totally slipped my mind cuz I've been saddle hunting for 4 seasons now but this is the first time I've ever been like "scored" for it if that makes sense haha. Ill take some pics after work tonight.

Cant say i blame ya. I often clean all my fish before realizing i never took any pictures.

Congrats again and i'm glad you're finding success with the saddle & water access methods. Ive been out of hunting for a few years and this will be my first year trying either of these methods. I'm excited that so many people are having success with it but nervous cause its so different than hunting over bait & driving deer like i'm used to.

Different can be a good thing tho! Both water access and hunting from a saddle has totally changed my odds for the better. If this buck does not count cuz I wasn't thinking clearly I apologize in advance boys...

Different can definitely be a good thing! i'm expecting a steep learning curve this yr though between being new to public lands, new to saddle hunting, using the kayak as access a fair amount, and living in a new region. Still excited to get started though!

Any luck submitting it to the thread?

What's up guys, our season starts on the 27th. Had some good 8s and 10s on camera these last few weeks but they've disappeared these last 2 days hopefully it's just due to warmer weather and not their patterns changing due to velvet coming off.

Our season here starts oct 1 I’ve got a couple nice 8’s on cam with plenty of does can’t wait for the season to start

I did my first non-practice sit yesterday after work for about 2 hours. Well, it was basically a practice sit since I made as much noise as basically shooting off fireworks on the way in and out but oh well. Notes from that are...

1) Man it can be hard to manage getting 4 sticks up a tree without making noise. But 4 only get me to 16 ft because I've been gifted with vertical limitations. And I'm not messing with aiders till I get super comfortable. 16 is probably enough?
2) It can be tricky to climb, when you're wearing your business casual work khakis underneath some not oversized camo pants.
3) I might need to redo my stick strap storage method, lost one on the way back to my car.
4) Just because you can make it up a narrow tree, doesn't mean you should.
5) I got to try answering nature's call (#1) in a saddle for the first time and stayed clean!

I mentioned I'm still new to hunting (only got 1 deer so far), and would be fine with a doe to start with, but I wouldn't mind this guy...

No luck today but was still a nice relaxing day in the wood(wet one)

Trying a spot tomorrow and still am waiting for my big boy to show himself during shooting hours before hunting his stomping grounds.

16 feet is high enough, yeah 25 is nicer but before I got this saddle I almost never got that high and still killed things. Just have to be careful because it's a little easier to be winded or spotted moving. Pick a tree that has a little cover to mask your movements.

Also for the stick storage, I just use the strap that's for hanging them aattached the button of the stick that's on the bottom of my stack of 3(hawk helium new gens)and wrap it around all of them top to bottom and tie it off to itself and ive found a extra python cable lock makes a amazing sling and I can use it to lock the sticks and platform to a tree if I plan to come back to that spot the following hunt.
