Team 2 BB - Bambi Blasters

Ugh my soon to be ex got me to do some crap for her and then got me into an argument lol so I didn't pack the truck yet. Can't make it to hunting spot before last light any more, looks like I will leisurely be packing for tomorrow and plan to be out all day.

Heading out in the morning. Season ends 1/16 but I'm not sure I can make it out again after tomorrow due to my schedule.

Best of luck

Well Season ends Monday....With that said I'm done. I just got pics of 2 of my targets and they each have dropped 1 side already and I haven't seen my number 1 buck in about 4 weeks. But I had a good season. Killed 3 does and learned a lot about myself and this Struggle Stick. I don't think I would change a thing either. So it's now time to get ready for turkey season. I plan on killing at least 1 turkey with Trad gear.

i went out for another short sit this evening after work. it was a comedy of errors getting up the tree and i saw nothing lol. hope to get out at least once or twice more before the end of the season/month.

Got one more hour in the woods in today after work but no deer. There's an outside chance I might get one more brief sit in on the last day of the season, depends on how work goes that day, but season looks to be drawing rapidly to a close. Not quitting yet, the gear will stay in the truck til the first just in case. Haven't seen a buck since November, after basically not getting out all December I've been riding the struggle bus for late season though so I don't have high hopes for contest points, but while there's still season and a chance to get out there's always hope.

@thedutchtouch , way to hang in there until the end! Good luck! Enjoy that time in the woods!

I've been back to arrows/bow tuning/practice mode but I'm thinking about cruising across the state for one more hunt... very low odds but the first hunt is the best hunt right?

Preparing for the last hurrah right now, my afternoon is looking lighter than expected and tomorrow looking busier than planned so I should be able to head out soon and spend the end of the day in the woods on the second to last day of season instead of last one. Weather is weird again, up in the 50s now and dropping into 40s throughout the afternoon/evening. I went to the "old standby" area close to where I shot both of my deer this year last time and saw nothing so I think I'm going to try that newer spot that I at least saw a doe on the hoof at last week, however likely hiking in to the other side that I haven't explored at all yet and seeing what I find over that way (wind should be blowing straight at parking today, we'll see if the internet is correct when I arrive) Or I may just push all the way into that supposed bedding area and see what happens, it's not like educating the deer about my presence matters much on the last evening out. Realistically I still move too quickly and make too much noise wherever I go so the real debate is push to a random tree and hang and hope quietly, or actually take a hour to walk a few hundred yards instead of pretending I'm going to do that and then stomping in like the amateur I am lol.

Rambling again. Looking forward to the afternoon, will touch base this evening with outcomes.

No deer, but found my first shed. By the looks of it it's been there a whileScreenshot_20230130-185302.png

Well my fellow Bambi blasters, the best team if I say so myself, even if the scoreboard tells a different tale, my season has ended. I didn't head out after work today as I'm under deadline and some people that outrank me waited until the last minute to request changes, so such is life. I had a fantastic season though, having shot two deer this year. That's double the total deer I'd shot ever before the season started. I would love to pull off the same trick next year, we'll see about that come September. I also contributed a goose egg to the contest last year, having shot my only deer that year from the ground, so pretty pleased about my 12 points there as well, even if we aren't finishing on the podium.

There is a little part of me kicking myself for doing the responsible thing since there's some daylight left, but I need my job, I just want another chance at a deer. If I went out today I'd still want another chance tomorrow lol, so time to start counting the tomorrow's until September. And making plans to actually be able to hunt the rut hard instead of letting family obligations take over. I'll still have the obligations, but I will be more firm on the "let's do that Sunday, not Saturday" and taking more personal time off for me during the week, this last year I burned too much time off doing things for other people (not a bad thing, just wanting to reorganize my time and efforts, and set boundaries U-Haul has trucks too, everyone doesn't have to borrow mine for free lol.)

I learned a ton this year, about hunting, the woods around where I live, and myself as a person. Type 2 fun is my gig, I might not be able to hunt but I plan on continuing some woods time with scouting and camping and fishing. This off-season will also hopefully be the year I buy my first hunting rifle (350 legend for Maryland deer)and second (270 or 30-06 or 6prc/that whole caliber comparison rabbit hole for Western/Alaskan hunts) (well and third, I'll likely pick up a cheap .22lr as well, and oh wait there's muzzleloaders too... This rabbit hole has rabbit holes let's just stop here), and I am really looking forward to learning to be safe and proficient at longer ranges, though I have no plans to hang up the bow for good. Also possibly buying or building a trad bow this summer and need to get the commercial sewing machine I've been fixing working too so my mind is all over the place.

Edit: I love going back and seeing my fresh eyed enthusiasm at the beginning of season, the possibilities are endless and I hope to continue that enthusiasm and mentality no matter how long I hunt. Talking a bit getting the feeling back but I have the same mentality about fishing, something about needing to try combined with the challenge and the unknown aspect. I'm a type 2 fun kinda person, and suspect that most of you are as well

Yep, that's about right. Lol. The place I set up for this spot is definitely the direction they came from and last light was 5:56 today. See you gals in September.

Only laugh because I've been in that position. Darn deer anyway!

I'm super happy to hear your still having fun and looking forward! (I would like to add more but honestly I'm a few barley sodas in and should wait for a more reasonable perspective)

I gotta ask though, what's type 2 fun?

It's been explained to me as the type of thing that has some degree of suck factor while you're doing it, but the stories afterwards are worth it, and an element of deriving pleasure from things that are hard but rewarding, but not comfortable or necessarily "fun" in the moment to a "normal" person. Backcountry roughing it instead of glamping, that sort of thing.

Well. I'm not gonna complain about my season. Arrowed a buck. Had some visuals on some others and a close call twice with the one nice one. Plus got my daughter a deer. Wish I could have put some more points on the board for team 2. But I am sure we all feel that way! Bambi blasters was the best team this year. Despite what the score board says.
