Team 2 Thread

I gotta change something up. I haven’t seen a single deer since October rolled in. September was fantastic, October has been terrible! I’ll be out again on Sunday and gotta figure out a game plan to hit a different piece.

I was out last night and tonight, I’m ready for this heat to be over with and it looks like a cool down coming this weekend… last night I saw 3 bucks and 4 does, pretty sure it was the same 10 pointer I already passed… all most all camera action is at night.. tonight I went back to the oak flat where the crossbow left me stranded… still no news on that. I bumped 7 deer walking in the right away road 2 were small bucks. There was a does feeding in the oak flat that I bumped and she made a racket… I didn’t see one deer out of the stand. I also bumped some on the way out. Monday looks to be cool and I’m looking forward to hunting… I have 3 days shifts and 3 night turns and I’m off form3 weeks to hunt.

I’d be happy to bump some! I haven’t seen a flag or heard any blowing. Just dead. Last two times I’ve pushed into a new corner of the property (after not seeing anything in a while on the other side) and I seem to be the only one hunting up there. Decent sign, but must be laid down at night.

Temps are finally starting to fall and with the rut getting close, they should start moving earlier in the evening. Probably won't go back out until gun opener. I'm really tempted to stick with the bow but looking at the grocery shelves makes me want to fill the freezer more.

My last hunt (last Saturday) was strange as well, same area 2 weeks prior I saw a dozen, that day zero. I suppose they moved to "better acorns" even though they were still dropping somewhat where I was.

That or whatever this October lull thing is. My plan is to walk around midday next hunt until I find poop. Lots of people talking about finding and setting up over fresh poop lately lol.

Who’s out today? I’m spending a day with my wife, but will be back at it tomorrow morning. Finally feels like fall around here! 37 degrees when I woke up today.

I bought a new inline muzzleloader yesterday to use during firearm season this year!

I’m sitting patiently at work while we just had a 20 degree temp swing… I will be able to get out Monday, then three night shifts and I have 3 weeks straight to hunt.

Talked to bow shop yesterday and they will replace my Xbow on Monday so back in business with that.

Not I and it'll probably be 3 weeks before I go out again. During lunch yesterday, I did scout a small local WMA. There were some doe signs with at least one bigger doe but didn't see any scrapes or rubs. If anything, this'll be a late season, try to put more meat in the freezer type hunting location.

Not going to be able to get out this weekend, or next, hoping to go out the Saturday after, debating taking a day off midweek too if there's a good weather change

Hey guys. First morning cool enough the skeeters didn’t bother me. Plenty of deer movement though and I got the monkey off me with this doe.

Don’t forget to post her in the Submission Thread, congrats!

Hunting in Louisiana. Found 4 persimmon trees on public land loaded down. I was waiting to hunt them again when they would be dropping but don't want to go back out there until I know they are falling.
I read they fully ripen and fall after the first frost. Anyone have experience hunting persimmons?

Persimmons have always been mid to late October in my opinion. I’m just across the state line in MS so I wouldn’t think they’d be far from dropping.

Had Monday off and spent the morning running errands and getting things taken care of… Had to go to bow shop and get the front end replaced on my crossbow it is fixed and back in service… hunted out at my biggest property… this is only year two there and I’m still struggling to find the best spots… I went down to the next flat past where my bow broke last Tuesday… sign was dismal I continued to scout my way out the point which turned into dropping down into the bottom… I found a couple historic trails all leading to a absolutely crushed creek crossing that I had marked on onX last year. I set up on it and should have kept moving.. #1 I didn’t see any big buck sign around. was two small rubs I saw on the way in but nothing that screamed he’s in here. #2 I was next to two creeks at the bottom of a decent ravine and the wind was switching and my thermals were pulling down to the creek.. twice I had deer blow at me once to my back left one to my back right. I did not set my self up for success… the other places I hunt I’ve been on for the better part of my life and I know exactly where the deer are coming from and where they are goin.. I start vacation on Friday I’m torn between a couple observation sits early in vacation to try and get some insight or going in early on Saturday and burning some leather and speed counting as much as I can.

As temps have hot more seasonable norm’s deer activity has picked up.. daylight camera activity has picked up and I’ve seen some small bucks getting frisky… it won’t be long before things get fun. IMG_2166.JPG

At the other two farms I hunt I have an 8 point at each I’d love to take.

I'm on weather watch right now. Gun opener is in 2 weeks plus a few but the question is whether a deep snow with prevent me from getting there. Dang contest has be bringing up my slug gun and I want venison and points but already know that I won't get the enjoyment I would with a bow. May need to get a crossbow in the off-season so I don't feel quite so cheap during gun season.

Well, fart-knockers. I may have screwed us out of some points.

Just got off the phone with the DNR and since I took a doe with my first tag, I can only take does with my remaining (2) tags. The language was ambiguous enough to seem like I could take a buck with any of my tags. That sucks but there is a silver lining. Since I'm now no longer focused on taking a buck, I'll stick with archery through the remainder of the year. Since I was thinking I could take a buck with any tag, I was going to bring my gun up to "guarantee" the buck and points.

Dang that’s kind of a weird rule. So do you technically have to shoot a buck first, or did you just use an “any sex tag” instead of an “antlerless tag”?

On the bright side, it could give you an opportunity to hunt a nearby state during the rut if that’s something you’d be interested in.
