Team 2 Thread

well, i posted in live from the saddle about my day being a coooold goose egg, and feeling like giving up on the season. now that 24 hours has passed, i'm no longer feeling sorry for myself about blanking (and wam warm) so i'm going to take advantage of the day off work tomorrow and go out tomorrow afternoon to give it another go. perhaps the day after the storm (snow passed though this afternoon and now we're getting some rain overnight) will be better than the day before? only way to tell is to get out there i suppose, now to decide where to go... wind is supposed to be blowing 20+ from the west, i could potentially head into the same area ish, as that area is to the leeward side of a hill (on left/(west) side of that the creek), so perhaps that'll cut the wind down some.

Hey @MSbowhunter48 I should have listened to you,I went out again today to same area but hardheaded me thought I knew better even though I literally asked for advice and then didn't follow it... and saw 3 doe cross in that pinch point you reccomended from about 300 yards away today. Thinking about shifting over there for Saturday, which will likely guarantee they will be under the tree I was in this evening lol.

Lol that’s hunting man! Keep working hard, it’ll all come together for you. Atleast you’re getting some good intel for next year.

Aggravating, isn't it. My first 20+ hours in the saddle this year, I "knew" I was in the right spot, saw a few deer but nothing even close to being in range. I then went some place new, hated the tree I was in and the location I was at and was cursing myself the whole time. That spot netted me my first saddle and first bow kill.

Virtually the same thing happened during rifle season and the buck that I had been watching. Instead of going to an unknown spot close to where I'd seen him, I went to my regular spot. I saw him, watched him for about 10 minutes then watched him run off with a doe. Hopefully he'll be around next year.

i've just been informed that the last weekend of season i have plans, and it's unlikely i'll be able to take a day off before end of the month, so saturday is my last hurrah for the season.

forecast is single digits in the AM, rising to 28 by 4 PM. wind from the N ranging 5-12 mph (depending on the source). there'll probably be a bit of snow on the ground from ~1.5 inches expected thursday, but likely crunchy as it'll be in the 20s friday as well.

i'm pretty sure i can't make it an all day sit in those temps with the clothes i have, i got pretty frozen after ~5 hours in the teens a few weeks ago (better late season clothes and boots are on my off season to-buy list), and have heard that late season AM may not be that productive anyway, particularly since there'll be plenty of moonlight overnight? (should i suck it up and go out for AM, warm up in the truck at lunch and go back out for PM? part of me wants to do this since it's my last day, but part of me thinks thats unnecessary punishment if the deer arent going to be moving in the AM?) i'll likely plan to go out around noon and sit for the afternoon/evening, i should be able to get into the spot i saw those 3 doe in on monday pretty easily with the wind coming that way and was going to go at noonish because it'll be a noisier walk in. i figured noise at noon and in tree for a few extra hours is better than noise closer to the crepuscular hour? fingers crossed!

Well, my contest season is coming to a close deerless. dissappinted to an extent but not mad about it since I did shoot my first deer this year (September feels so long ago) but it was from the ground. Yesterday's hunt was ok, I picked a tree that was much too large so has to provide and use my backup Daisy chain to extend my platform strap length for the first time this season, but it had good cover and the hunt went well, although I did have a dog walker, a hunter, and two hikers walk through the area I was hunting, I finished the day with a doe about 7 yards away, but she busted me as I was trying to begin drawing my bow, and bounded off. I saw her again walking out after dark, she and I have a date for next September if she keeps using the same bedding area.

That stinks that you got skunked in the saddle but also seems like you've got the right mindset.

I can't even describe how much I want this snow to melt off so I can start getting back in the woods and prepped for next fall.

I just got off the tractor from
Moving snow for the second big storm we’ve had this week. 12” last Monday and 3 tonight. Calling for some more Tomorrow. I have this week off and plan to have one last hunt of the year. Would love to get one last doe… see how the week goes and how hay our kids have going on.

Strong work carrying the team gents, I wasn't able to contribute any points, much to my displeasure, but enjoyed riding (and learning from) your coattails!
