Team 2 Thread

I went Saturday evening. Had a doe and fawn come in down wind. She smelled me but continued in and smelled where I sat my pack down and saw my sticks. She never did calm down enough for me to make the shot I was wanting. I’m training a tracking dog so I carried the crossbow so I could place a high rear lung shot to get about a hundred yard track. Got a trail cam pic of a couple bucks sparring tonight at the same location.

This weekend I’m headed to an island hunt for youth. So yet another weekend I’m not killing something.

i've been planning to go out saturday, but forecast for rain- i'm not scared of getting wet, i''ve got some camo frogg toggs, and have heard that light rain can sometimes increase deer movement, but i'm a bit worried about my inexperience and losing blood on wet ground. we'll see come saturday. I started a gut renovation of one of our bathrooms yesterday, almost done with demo, so i'll hit that hard on saturday if i don't go out. i'll likely go out and keep it chip shot range only.

I can handle rain as. Make a good shot and they aren’t going far anyway. I wouldn’t want to deal with rain and darkness. So I would be really careful about shooting last light if it was also drizzling.

I threw a cam up yesterday over the scrape I hung over yesterday. I believe this is the big one I’ve been seeing. Going back tonight, last night I can hunt till next Tuesday.

Agreed. Although I know it's a good time I am admittedly a bit wary of last light because of blood tracking etc in the dark. Just need more practice...

Left some points on the hoof today. Was pretty hot here.. had 2, 3 year old bucks in range, one was an 8 that had a hole in no mans land but seemed to be acting perfectly normal. The other was a 10-12 that was hard not to shoot was probably 120” ish deer.. if he was a little taller would have been an easier decision.. hope I don’t regret this later.

There’s a front moving in Saturday evening and am hoping that gets them moving. Wind is also going to put me in a new area. I really need meat in the freezer and points on the board.

Great sit though!

Again. 84 degrees. 90 percent humidity. Saw a 1.5-2 year old buck on the way to my spot. And a big old pig on the way out. Squirrels and falling acorns were my friends.

Heading up tomorrow morning for a Friday afternoon-Sunday morning hunt. Tomorrow evening will be more of a scouting trip for Saturday evening. The front should move through Saturday evening so that is my biggest hope.

I’m done with the sightseeing from the previous 2 weekends and have upgraded to “if it’s brown, it’s down…if in range”.

GNCC ?
I raced for years. I miss it a lot!

Where you from?

I’m in north east Ohio. I run a few local series hare scrambles and enduros. I may go to a few GNCC’S next year and may even hit Ironman this year just depends what the hunting weather is like..

I rode when I was younger and just got back Into it the last few years. Much funner workout than going to the gym.

weather forecast for saturday is clearing up for me, my bathroom renovation is ahead of schedule and my wife and i are getting on each other's nerves, so all signs point to a nice day in the deer woods saturday. hope we all stack em up!

WAY TO GO @MNFarmHunter! i'm up way too late to be waking up at 4, oh well... I just saw your post in the entry thread, looking forward to reading about your kill from the tree tomorrow if i have enough service!

Thanks. I’m on my phone right now and will give more details when I get back to a computer.

Long story short is I hated my setup, hated my location and had zero faith that I’d see anything. Where I shot her, my rangefinder wouldn’t give a reading because she was too close to measure.

Sat with my oldest son on the tower stand for his first hunt ever. It’s the youth hunt this weekend. We didn’t see any deer but it was fun. Hopefully tonight we see something.

Been out all AM, only deer I saw was in the dark on the walk in. Not planning on driving home til the end of the day, currently debating hanging here vs hiking and setting up somewhere else. I'm in an oak flat crisscrossed with deer trails, acorns dropping but not as much as they were a few weeks ago.
