Congrats! Nice shot too. Not one I'd let walk away around my area. I only let spikes & forks by till after thanksgiving. I have 2 good 8pntrs on cam but only managed to get them about 2 hours off of daylight so far.
Thanks. And don’t get me wrong. I am happy he is in the freezer. I just know I have a lot of really nice bucks around here and although his body was big, I have passed on other bucks bigger than him already. I am still happy with him, just bummed we only get one buck tag here and it’s still early, but that was replaced quickly when my wife asked which state I planned to hunt the rut now?

Woot Woot!

80 degrees seem like a good day to hunt over water

These acorns are killing me. I was on them the first 2 weeks of the season but didn't connect now I am always one step behind them. They are searching and scraping at night here, now I just need catch one doing it during the day time.

Around here in PA/Ohio we have a warm snap that is going to be tough this week but then the cold front with a northern wind is coming thru Thursday night which is going to cool things down 15-20 deg. Things should be on fire starting Friday morning. I am sure there will be some movement over the next few days on regular routes, especially with younger bucks getting excited but I expect those big old bucks will be up and moving more during the day once the front rolls in. I will probably adjust from individual routes in and out of pockets/feeding/bedding areas to pinch points on main routes that have had a lot of doe movement because those bigger bucks will be cruising and looking.

Good luck everyone that is getting out. This week should just keep getting better and better.

Today was a good day, one of those cool, wet, foggy November mornings that I dream about. I called and waited a few minutes, slammed the horns together, and about a minute later had this guy come in at about 18 yards. I hit the liver 1 lung and nicked the heart. He ran about 90 yards and piled up.

Awesome Buck- Congrats on a great shot and harvest!

Well our team has been pretty quiet this week so glad to get something going again. I still hunted this morning right at shooting light up to the spot I left my sticks last weekend- took me almost 2 hours partly because I kept hearing tree rats pretending they were deer coming to me. Got to my spot and setup then heard a deer move across below me just out of sight in the first half hour. Did a few bleats and grunts but nothing. Did another few calls 20 minutes later and heard something coming steady 10 minutes later. I pulled my gun and struggled to get it on the other side of the tree and make sure I could shoulder it when he suddenly appeared and moving quick. Followed him through the scope and searched for the open shot and thinking about giving him a mouth bleat when he finally paused but was looking nervous- think he was about on my walkin path. Had a clear quartering to shot in the shoulder so I took it as I was afraid he was about to run- Dropped him right there. Then he slid about 10 feet down the steep slope and out of sight but never heard him even kick. Sit was a wopping 1 hour!

Tough spot to get out as it took my son and I 4 hours to get him to the truck and that was with a 4wheeler and deer cart for 3/4 of the trip. My old knees are done for the weekend! 7 pntr, 180 lbs.

Congratulations, what a classic NH big woods buck! I on the other hand have had deer all around me since September and can't get the job done.
