Team 3 2019

Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted on where this project goes.

What are you guys considering as your killing range with your bows (practiced experienced archer)? 40yrds? Less?

I’m a good shot to 45 but I keep it 35 and in. And I’ve only ever shot one at that distance. Ideally I want 10-20.

I am super conservative when it comes to my hunting yardage. I shoot pretty good out to 40 yards, but my hunting yardage is 25 yards max. I've been hunting with a bow for 29 years.

Looks like we're tied in 6th. Lets make a run
So far my season has been extremely slow. The opportunities I've had have been out of my comfortable range with the recurve. Hunted hard the first week and a half on my trip to Ohio, only one "shooter" buck seen at 60 yards! Work and family have limited my hunts in NC, but I'm headed back to southern OH Friday after Thanksgiving, will get a couple more days with the bow and then the shotgun opener starts Monday. Hoping to contribute something for the TEAM... Congrats to all who have been successful so far and for those of you struggling like me, good luck and lets keep grinding it out all while enjoying the time in the woods and keep a positive attitude! Happy Thanksgiving

I have one full day left with the bow, then it's gun. I've seen a few nice bucks this year and some smaller ones. As far as buck sightings go it's been a great year for me. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Well, monday was the opener for rifle in WV. Didnt make it out until 1430, my youngest had a "charlie brown thanksgiving" @ preschool. Tuesday, I was in the saddle @ day break. Seen 4 bucks, 2 small ones, an 8pt that I hesitated on and never got a second chance at. Then at 8 a shot rang out and a slammer came floating out of a thicket and crosses the pipeline so fast that I never got him in the scope.... I decide to hope down and drive to a new spot around 0830, on the walk back to the truck I had to cross a powerline and I saw a head on the horizon about 400 yards out, so I laid down in the prone and scoped it out, 18 does worked down to 280-300 yards I picked the biggest one out and touched one off. She dropped in her tracks. She was 287 to where she dropped. The 7mm did a great job!

I take her to the butcher because I cant transport across state lines, and see this...

Apparently the second day was a good day for the state even with high temps!
Today I didnt get out but that's ok. I had to accompany my wife to the sonogram!

Yea, it's a boy, no hiding that!
Tomorrow is thanksgiving, and I'll get to get back at it until 11 or so, no real plan just looking to pull the trigger again! Good luck to all and happy Thanksgiving to the US boys, sorry @MJH, (happy belated thanksgiving?). Stay safe all!

Happy Thanksgiving to you. Congratulations on the new baby boy. Nice job on the doe by the way.

Ok team three, I shot a doe this morning. If you were to ask me I'd say I smoked her. I give her 30 min and start down out of the tree. I get to the arrow it's blood the full length. I start tracking her, I've got good blood but not a Trypan through both lungs good. I'm starting to consider backing out and there she is 40 yds............. head still up. She sees me and after a minute she stands up. I'm looking to get another arrow off but it's to thick, so I wait. 10 minutes, She's still standing there tail flicking head down. Finally she lays back down and I am able, with the cover of the wind retreat out without her getting back up. I will go back and get her in a few hours.... I hope without any drama. Fingers crossed. My quick assessment is that I hit her lower than I thought and may have only got the near side lung, I say this because I ranged to where she stood and it was 25 yds. I shot her for 20.

Good luck, sounds like a good plan. Keep us all posted.

I recovered my doe. Not the nice neat package we all hope it will be, but all's well that ends well. We can have a discussion about the performance of the broadheads I'm shooting. It turns out I center punched her. I have a few pictures. We can review the evidence. I will get pictures of the arrow shafts on the second and third arrows. Yea. It went like that.

This sounds like a valuable learning experience, especially for the rest of us since we didnt have to suffer through it like you did. Looking forward to the post mortem on this situation.

Shotgun season starts Saturday. Got off work early to try to fill my archery doe tag. I just live for afternoons like this.Screenshot_20191204-154954_Gallery.jpg

Well fellas, had a heck of a freezer filling week. Took two does in wv, both of which got donated to hunters helping the hunger, and a horse of a doe on the Pa rifle opener.. none of which were from the saddle..... on saturday I walked 8.14 miles in total driving for our crew, seeing 52 deer total 5 nice bucks and a ridiculous droptine 9pt. Saw 17 more on monday walking 4.87 miles, only one buck a nice mountain 8 pointer. Still have 3 more tags on the season, hope to get back in the saddle with my flintlock after. Christmas. Good luck, stay safe happy hunting!!

Gotta take the time when you can get it. Been blessed with a good amount of time this season and it was real nice out for early December day. So when boss says "were slow someone want to leave" I was already in the parking before the last word came out.

Those numbers blow my mind (the deer count that is). You guys must live on a different planet. I have probably seen 52 deer in 5 years of hunting...

I had never before seen that many day in a day. There were also more hunters than I have ever seen before. Our state change the opening day of rifle season this year to the saturday after Tday, it's been the monday after Tday since the 40's. It was an awesome deer camp this year, kinda wish we had the option of a second buck though. I'd pay 100$ for a optional second buck tag....
