Team 3 2019

Been away for awhile.
Good news,... bad news.
Good news: After a long hard season, I got a nice doe on 12/10/19 during our muzzle loading season.
Bad news: I was still hunting.
I may still be able to get out again and give it one last try.
Good luck to anyone still in the game.
There is no bad news involved when you get the job done, congrarts!

Well got back out today to try and fill some doe tags! Did a wind bump for myself, and had a great day. Saw a bunch of deer. Took a good doe with the flintlock! Still got a couple more weeks til the season is over! Hope everyone had a great holiday and happy new year all!

Good for you! ;)

Noooooo, if those aren't the worst words of the year..... my last days to hunt........
Aint that the truth. Looking back on this year I feel like the season was one long scouting trip and less of a hunt. I've tried to put myself in deer but a large part of my hunts were trying to gather info for future hunts. Hopefully it leads to an efficient 2020. I'm gonna need it with another little one due at the end of March.

Hell yeah! @BackSpasm

@ThePennsylvanian we're open here until 1/31 but I highly doubt I can get out the last two weekends. Seeing as how I haven't filled any tags, I've got a $hit ton of them available. We got about 5 inches of snow last night. Hoping some of it can make it through to tomorrow morning as I'll be out in the 18 degree temps. Probably only my family that I love more than hunting in the snow.

Iowa late archery split ends Friday, the 10th. Was hoping to get out one last time but a friend asked for some help to install some windows on Friday, my day off, so probably wont be able to go out anymore this season.

Season is over here in MN. Going to do some scouting this weekend. I filled the freezer this year, but didn't kill a buck.

Missed a good 10 point back in early November. It was day 3 of my 4 day rutcation. I was dedicated to this spot. Sat dark to dark for 2 days. Saw 5 different 8 pointers but nothing that was worth the 2 mile pack out. Day 3 I had a hot doe in the area. She was getting dogged all over. 11am rolls around and she walks by within 20 yards. 1pm she comes back on a different path with no shooting lane. 3pm comes and here comes a nice buck nose to the ground on her trail. He follows the path without a good shooting lane. I picked a spot and grunted at him. He stopped and I tried to sneak one in there. Must have hit a branch or something because it was way off. Nicked his back end. He turned and run so I grunted with just my mouth. He stopped and looked around. I grunted again and he started licking his nose and coming towards me. I didn't know how bad I'd hit him so I was determined to get another shot. He come right to the base of the tree. It's so thick in there that my only shot is straight down. Admittedly haven't practiced that shot out of the saddle. Stopped him and shot again. Just grazed his side, only taking off some hair. He ran away looking unhurt. I got down as it was starting to snow. Found a little blood but not much. Both arrows had no blood on them. White hair from his back end on the first shot.

Hindsight 20/20... Maybe it's a good thing I missed because it started snowing immediately after the shot so tracking and recovery would have been tough.

Wish I would have just let him walk and try to call him back in, but who knows what would have happened. I rushed a risky shot and it didn't pay off. Learned a couple lessons the hard way there but that's why they call it hunting not killing.

In S/E Michigan they have an extended season until the end of January for three counties near me. I'm going to play the weather and try to get out and see if I can find some fresh activity to hang and hunt.

Haha sorry I took him home and processed myself. Then got my boy, then dinner, you know how it goes...

Thought he was a doe for a bit. Then I thought I saw antler. Then I said f it this is a management hunt and the year has been rough so I don’t care. Not something I’d normally shoot but meat in the freezer so I’m happy. Quartered him up and ate some tenderloin tonight first saddle kill
