Team 3 2019

What’s everyone’s favorite saddle setup? I’m still exploring but right now I’m using the WE stepps with a k/s. Still have sticks in case that pisses me off too much this year lol. I’ve also got a mantis but am intrigued by the flex.

I'm also rocking the WE steps and a K/S. I have everything tethered, including the Predator. I got it all mid way thru last season and still managed to take 2 bucks out of it to finish the season. Looking to repeat this year for team 3.

I'm using straight WE steps, and a perch. Using the aerohunter kite, it's perfect for me. I have a basic setup, that's how I want it. I'll sacrifice the few extra pounds for simplicity.

I've pretty much tried everything. The best setup I've found to date is a kite/kestrel, a ring of 5 squirrel steps with a boat buckle OCB, and climbing with 8 wildedge stepps with a knaider only. I'm always tinkering with sticks to find something I like but that is my go to set up.

No way hey, I'm a bigger fan of Canadian bacon ( which is just ham by the way) than I am of the Bruins.

"Canadian bacon" always confuses us up here - we have no idea where you guys got this idea from. Up here bacon is bacon, and ham is ham! To return to the context of all this, I agree with you that ham is better than the Bruins. I feel better about team 3 now...

Kestrel, Predator, 4 Beast sticks with Carl's original Versa-lite straps and CAYG aider. Like @redsquirrel, I'm always thinking and tinkering. This forum has a great deal to do with that!

I’m sitting in a slightly modified kestrel, climbing with 3 diy sticks and a sewn 3 step aider, and still using 4 Amerasteps on a ocb. I did recently trade a predator for 8 squirrel steps and ocb’s so if I have time to hunt and play with those as a climbing method I may be changing things a bit. In reality, I will probably just try them as a platform. I like the simplicity of sticks.

Well I can’t take not being in the woods any longer. I’ll be checking outta work early on Friday and hunting the little piece of private I have access to. Haven’t checked the cams I have up there since May so at the worst I should have some good inventory

Hey @redsquirrel why do you only use the knaider and not the swaider as well? Comfort, or is there some advantage?
I think the knaider swaider combo is a death trap. Have you seen how many people have fallen and gotten hurt or almost got hurt using it? I never got comfortable using it going up onto 1 step in my backyard.

The knaider with wild edge steps is awesome though. I think it's extremely safe. You put your next step above you and always have a handhold above you to pull yourself up.

The swaider alone works great on sticks.

The knaider/swaider combo are aiders attached below your center of gravity. Kickout without a handhold above, really easy to end up attached to the tree inverted.

I am with you on this. I practiced climbed with both the knaider and swaider and did not feel great about it. I rewatched the videos and scratched my head seeing how easy it looked on film. I am glad to hear your view on this, and am going to retool and test climb with the knaider. How high do you figure you get with the 8 steps - 16-18'?

In the spirit of team work, I thought I'd ask if there was anything anyone really needed this season? I may not have exactly what you need BUT I'm sure I/we could pull together something will work!
Also if anyone is looking for a non-res hunt this, I'm serious about showing anyone around my area of PA and WV..... forewarning its 99% public, but tags are relatively cheap!

Super awesome Penn.
What kind of dates work for a potential hunt down there? Here come the groans, but I shoot crossbow, so that might factor into the seasons etc. My hunt goal if I were coming down there would be the best damn buck in the state a doe for the freezer so public land is just fine. Given my work and hunting schedule, Nov 23rd or so would be the earliest possible on my end.
