Team 3 2019

Well I got out last night for the first time in my saddle. One of the most exciting hunts I’ve ever had. Had action at 5:30 and was covered up with about 20 deer under me and out to 100 yards away from 6 to closing time. A beautiful 9 pt was the first to show out of the group but hung back how they always do and let the does and fawns work out in front of him. Well of course they walked right under me and got ground scent. Long story short they didn’t completely spook but got a little stompy. They worked off and around me but came back into the field. That buck never followed them of course and eventually was walking away at last light. If they wouldn’t have smelt me he woulda walked right up the edge for a perfect 20 yard broadside shot. That stung a bit lol. Adding insult to injury was the fact that I could have shot any of the does but didn’t because I saw him.

Good news is I was able to pull both memory cards. Bad news is both don’t show me anything good which is crazy since we have beans on our fields this year. There’s always bachelor groups but not this year. I know it’s been super dry but just strange. Especially after the night I had last night.

Saddle question: my legs felt tired from the pressure on them from leaning. Anything I can do to try and fix that. Seems like I had to much weight on them I guess?

20 deer is twice as many deer as I would see in a whole season. Not sure about the legs being tired. Saddle shape? At least your in the deer.

Went for a scout ride on the mountain bike last night, made it to the top of cattle pasture only to find 16 does feeding, so I took a seat to wait for what else would come out. Well 11 more does and a nice 8 (outside his ears) worked out through evening. All in all, turned out to be a good night!

Yeah it’s the best sit I’ve had on that property in several years. Probably the best sit period in several years. Definitely a lot of fun.

I wasn’t sure if it was saddle shape or not having the tether in a good spot. I wasn’t able to play around with it as much as I wanted because of the deer

try adjusting whatever ass/leg tension straps you might have. I made a minor adjustment on my Kestrel and it transformed from uncomfortable to a floating lounge chair.

How high do you figure you get with the 8 steps - 16-18'?
I hit somewhere around 19-21 feet with 7 stepps and my ROS. I carry 8 stepps so I can get a little higher when I want to. Also some trees there may be a branch or fork or just something weird where I may have to skip a step with the knaider.

What’s everyone’s favorite saddle setup? I’m still exploring but h right now I’m using the WE stepps with a k/s. Still have sticks in case that pisses me off too much this year lol. I’ve also got a mantis but am intrigued by the flex.

This season I’m gonna be using the YARAK. I hunted out of a Kestrel past two seasons, and a sit drag before that. I use a combo of climbing methods, last year I primarily used my hand climber and 1 modded helium stick. I have a handful of the Primal steps that I’ve been playing with past couple weeks and I like them. Might try using a knaider with a plywood platform, not sold on them enough to go for a perch or WE steps. I’ve got 3 helium’s but haven’t settled on an official platform yet, usually use my hand climber as a platform.

After this weekend I've settled on this for my mobile setup. I have a few spots preset so I'm not always mobile hunting, but when I am I can always find a climbable tree where I'm hunting so the LWHC works for me. H2 saddle, fleece pouches from DanO.

Whats up hombres! I have been MIA on here until now but its time to start putting some brown on the ground! TN bow season is officially open. Who is ready to kick some nutterbutt and take some names this season? I need the hype factor to be way higher on here than it currently is. Im hunting out of my DIY saddle. We had an early velvet season in August this year and I had some buck encounters and the trailcams are steadily producing. Let's start letting those arrows fly boys!

You mean the leg straps themselves or the micro adjusters? Like I said I’m still dialing in and didn’t have a bunch of time to play during this last sit. My experience has been if I get the micro adjusters too right I usually have hip pinch. Still playing with the leg straps and trying to see if I prefer them high or low and how tight

Decent. Probably would work the majority of the time for me but I only have 6 steps currently. My hunt on Friday I only had to use 3 steps and I was probably 18-20 feet on my platform. Still dialing everything in for my climb up but my climb down in the dark was super easy. Thinking the most I’d ever need currently is 4 steps which I really enjoy. I would like to find a better way to carry them then in their bag though

I am not specifically familiar with the Mantis and the micro adjusters it has. I run a kestrel, and it has ass/leg tension straps. They change your hip angle and have a big factor on comfort. For me, I needed to tighten them up a bit from where they were initially set. There are some videos on this for the Kestrel - one by Boudreaux. I presume there are some for the Mantis as well - but I can't reference them.

Without being familiar with the kestrel that looks like the micro adjusters to me. They definitely make a difference on comfort depending on what you like. So far having them cinched down has now helped me but I'm sure I'll get it figured out. Hopefully before all day sits.
