Love the 44mag. Your accuracy good out to 100yrds with it? What kinda ammo are you shooting? Talked to people who had issues with accuracy at longer ranges to.
I had to get some custom loads to get my single shot to be accurate past 60. Now it's dead on at 100.
Forgot to answer about the ammo. I'm shooting Federal Hammerdown. So far I really like them. I had tried the Hornady LeverRevolution, but I had issues with them jamming when working the lever action (I talked with someone from Hornady about this and they said I could fix the issue by first loading flat nosed round and then loading the LeverRevolution rounds. This did work, but I didn't want to have to worry about that while hunting).

Tomorrow’s the last day of archery at home and I’m gonna take it off and spend a full weekend with the family. Monday though I’m going to try to take my first shotgun saddle deer! Never ever do I hunt from a tree during gun season but this year I’ve devised a plan hoping it works out! Haha
Depending on how you sit and tether height, hanging your pack in the right spot can help rest your gun in an anticipated direction. Good luck tomorrow!

I actually went out and set up a tree today In what’s been a very hot spot the last 3 weeks! Bow hunting it I’ve clearly been conservative and riding the transition edge but I went out into the timber right of the soft wood hardwood transition. The entire bench is primarily softwood so against my better judgement I preset a pine tree (I’m also a 99% of time time a one sticker and hate presets) but the temps are gonna be frigid tomorrow morning so I decided against sweating before an all day sit! IMG_2335.jpegIMG_2344.jpegStory time! What an absolute day it was! 15* this morning. As I formerly stated I set the tree up yesterday. Well mo-mo me didn’t pin the tree on the phone or mark it in anyway and hunting a shelf full of softwoods good lunch finding a tree you’ve Litterally been in once with minimal idea as where it was in relation to geography! So I worked up a touch of a sweat walking circles to find this tree. Anyways let’s get to sitting and freezing! After finally cooling down and drying off I bundled up but I was still chilly so when the sun peaked up naturally I repositioned. Well not more than 20 minutes after I did that 9 does came off the hill side to my left the first ( and biggest) if the first picture where I’m still in the tree. So now as you can imagine things got messy and with one dead in sight I made a ****ing mess. The skipper was a 88 yard running shot from a tree wich I’m rather impressed with although I’m kinda upset that I shot a skipper. At the same time I had no idea what was what in that moment I was just running the pump. There was a third deer engaged however I believe he was a complete and total miss and I have a friend hunting not to far off who claims to have seen him hole free about 20 minutes later 250 yrds away from lol. All in all what a day it was and I am forever going to be grateful for the harvest I was blessed with today! Might go back to bow hunting to fill out my last remaining tag!

Well..what's shaken guys? Anyone coming into prime time now? You southern boys?
I got another tag in my pocket yet. So I'm not done. Letting things settle some.

I'm taking a bit of a brake. Between the grind, weather and holidays I haven't had much interest. I think it's supposed to be a little warmer coming up and back to bow should both help my motivation. Still have 2 tags, restrictions buck and a doe

Sorry guys, I jumped out of the saddle and started scouting/still hunting some new spots and seeing a ton of deer finally. Haven’t killed one, passed on a couple smaller and was outsmarted by at least two huge Adirondack. mountain bucks. Night/day different from my bow season, and a lot more fun. I’m going to get back in the saddle a couple more times this season and see if I can get some points on the board… but was going nuts seeing nothing for weeks at a time.

I went out for a short hang tonight. Wind was wrong vs the forecast, as usual. Insert eyeroll but I hung anyway. I had seen doe earlier this year there and there's buck sign and houses ( scent) nearby so what do I have to lose? Interesting noises that I'm pretty sure were turkey but no action. Nice to out again!

Points for a silly contest are cool but don’t do it when you have more enjoyment else where!

I like being in the saddle, I’ve got some new spots it could work again and my legs could use a break. I’ve covered at least 100mi since I was last in the saddle, and the last 30ish were through 15+ inches of powder. 40 degrees today so it’ll be too crunchy to sneak around there now so I’ll either get up in a tree between water and bedding or head back to some places I’ve let cool down that don’t have as much snow. One week of ML (either sex) starts tomorrow in Northern zone, then everything is closed until after Christmas then a few days for Southern zone, time to make something happen.

Had a great hunt this morning. I don't often get to hunt in the snow here in Indiana, so I love it when I do. The temps were cold (10 degrees) but there was almost no wind, so I was comfortable. I had a nice fat doe and two fawns come by right at shooting light and eat acorns from the tree that I was in for about 20 minutes. They were super close, but never spooked. One of the fawns even was nosing around directly at the base of the tree I was in. I think it probably helped some that I had rope climbed this morning and I had pulled my ropes up after I climbed so there was less for the deer to smell. Also, this morning I washed with my normal soap and body wash rather than my special scent free soap. The deer still didn't smell me, so maybe that special hunting soap isn't so special after all. :)
The doe would have been really tempting to shoot, but I'm all out of doe tags for the year so I just got to enjoy watching them this morning. doe+fawn.jpg

I've been living through you all for the last 3 weeks. Took a break to let the orange army do their thing and wound up with a sinus infection leading to a flair up of BPPV again. Got another month left in the Missouri season, and I'm not sure I'm even going to be able to safely get in a tree. Doing the exercises recommended in the hopes I can get it managed enough to salvage something.
