Team 4 thread

Alright team I need help… hunt Friday or Saturday? That’s all I can do this weekend. Then I have the entire week off for thanksgiving and will be hitting it hard.

If that says 22mph winds on Friday, I'd go out Saturday instead. The deer in VA don't like heavy winds.

If you do end up choosing Friday instead, there's zero chance I would hang in a tree. That kind of wind will greatly mask your sound as you walk and the swaying of leaves/trees will help hide movement. I'd be COVERING some serious ground in a ghillie suit looking for bedded cervids.

I kinda like the winds. I hate dead calm. I agree with @Red Beard and make sure your safe and/or take advantage of an aggressive tactic. You could even hunt just 10-12 ft off the ground. But make sure there are no chance of dead-ish trees around you could drop limbs on you.

Seems timely that this video was released today.

Penn State deer research says deer move more in high winds.

I actually just sent an article talking about that study to my buddies a few hours ago.

We have a decent sized draw running through a property I thought about Friday hunting and getting in it. The wind is blocked pretty good down in there. Thought they might travel it to stay protected. It’s always windy here in Kansas but the 40mph gusts makes me wonder.

That article also mentions they don’t like windy nights and Thursday night looks pretty windy. And so does Friday night so maybe Saturday lighter wind would bring in some extra movement.

If I could talk my wife into both days I can do my own research

I did yesterday. Family time today!

Had a close call with a 135-140” buck at 7 yards. Was sitting on the ground over a few scrapes and rubs I found and he picked me off as I was trying to draw while he went behind a tree. Talk about an exciting heartbreaker!

I guess positive is I still have a chance to get one hanging from the saddle.
