TEAM 5 2019

I got everything organized and finished my own pack. If I SRT I have my hunting rig down to 10 pounds (don't have digital scale)... Bow or gun will add weight yet. Not nutterbuster light but it is better than the 20 pounds I used to carry with a climber. Still hopeful I can get out mid day next week a couple of times.

Opening day is tomorrow here in PA! Morning temp supposed to be real deal 33 degrees.

Managed a hunt Saturday evening and only saw a coyote on the walk in. Back out this morning in the rain and saw 7 small bucks, a doe and a pig.

I was out the other day. Not my best day. 12+ inches of rain in past 3 weeks and I decided to hunt a river bottom. It didn't look flooded and it was the wrong time to realize that my boots were no longer waterproof proof. Then I realized the normal creek I can jump across was now 30 feet wide. With soaked feet, I decided to just practice my SRT and tossing my throw line.

After an uneventful sit this morning I decided to scout an overlooked strip of national forest that butts up to a couple of private fields. Topo made it look like a small hill next to private, turns out to be a small sink hole/low spot. After following a rub line I stumbled across this gem (you can see the licking branch worn down in the top of the frame). I'm guessing at least a couple of decent bucks are staging here waiting for the evening thermals to switch to scent check the private fields. I've got a camera soaking now to confirm.

I'm hoping to score at least a doe for us the first week of November. This is my normal rut hunt I go on but it had been a while since I finished the deal hunting that I'm to the point of if it is brown it is down. If I fail with that, then I'm hopeful gun season will let me get something.

Good luck to the rest of you and get your freezers filled!

Well... I left all my honey holes this weekend and traveled halfway across the state to take my nephew hunting for his first time. We put in about 3 miles of hiking and scouting on the first day. On the evening of the first day he shot a doe. A half hour before dark this guy steps out, he's a bit smaller than I would have liked for the contest but hey I need meat in the freezer.

Flat out missed a doe at 30yds tonight. With a rifle. Disgusting, lol

I would love to tell you what happened other than “I missed”, but I have nothing.

That’s my Browning A-Bolt 25-06.

I love the Oplux, but I hate the length of the Jammy. I use 35cm for the prussic and it’s simply too dang long for my tastes.

So far I've mostly only hunted down here in south Louisiana. Hardly any deer here. I've only had one group of doe within bow range on one set. Unfortunately they stayed behind heavy cover up so I never had a clear shot. Headed back to North Louisiana hopefully this weekend. There's plenty of hunting season left. Our rut doesn't start until Christmas and really picks up the first week of January. My wife is giving me the entire month of January to hunt with exception of about two or three days I'll have to get some work done. So I'm sitting here patiently waiting for y'all to fill y'alls tags.
