Team 5 Thread

Ya, I'm done. Reduction zone was a "no go" this year. I really need to hit it harder next year.
 
I’m still at it, have been hunting 2-3 times a week. Still eating this buck tag but dang I should be in the escalation bonus round with 8 does…… got my first trad deer this past Monday afternoon! That was a big goal for me & kinda fired me up…… going to hunt tomorrow evening & maybe Sunday evening as well.
 
I got to hunt in the snow today which is a rarity here in middle GA. I wound up shooting a doe. She trotted 20yds, tipped over, and was still laying there with her head up when I left. The whole time she was trotting her back was arched upward. I’m thinking I one lunged/livered her because she was quartering to a little. Either way I’ll go get here later tonight or in the am. I haven’t seen any yotes lately so I should be fine either way.

Fellas, I screwed up. I recovered the doe the following morning, butchered her, and forgot to take pics. I’ll get another one this weekend to add to the contest. I’m not sure it really matters now, but I hate I forgot.

All good!!! If it was a 12point we might’ve had a problem……. Filling the freezer is waaay more important than some contest.

I was going to let her hang, but since the exit was through the gut I just chopped her up, and through the carcass in the trash can before the buzzards started congregating in the trees around the house. That morning was also trash pick up day, and I knew that if I was quick about it I could make the carcass, and gut pile disappear pretty easy.

So my dad shot a doe last night, and the blood trail went across these antlers. I’ve been chasing this deer for 2 yrs. I hunted him all this yr thinking he was still in the swamp, and never put a camera in there. The trail cam pic is the last night I had him on camera. I think he died soon after that. His skull had no smell at all.

It’s Pops trophy, lol. That deer is going to make me shiver every time I walk in his basement. He would have been a STUD this yr. I put him at 3-1/2 last yr.

At least you know what happened to him and that he didn't just disappear. Also, his genetics will be in that area and if a mature buck was calling that area home another will likely do the same.
 
Well, that's a wrap for the season for me. I went out for a while this afternoon with a friend of mine to his hunting club. The wind was terrible. I took this opportunity to hunt for the first time out of the Lone Wolf .5 I bought a while back. I wanted to get one hunt in it before the end. Since I was going to be on private, I took the hand drill and 10 bolts along. I ended up only using 3 bolts and my platform was about 6 feet off the ground, but that seemed to be fine for where I was up against a thicket. I'm glad I did not go too high up, I would have really been tree surfing in that wind. Suffice to say neither one of us saw anything with the wind whipping like it was.

It was a good season. I would like to have gotten a buck, but all in all I am satisfied with how things went. There are always improvements to be made, of course and I will be going over all the stats for the season as always looking for ways to make the upcoming fall better.
