Team 7 Thread

Same here! We have a 1.5 year old and a second one expected mid-March lol. I primarily get weekends, read Saturdays, but we'll see because the wife wants to hunt this year too...

Good luck! Going from 1 to 2 put a big damper on my hunting time. I had to get a lot smarter about choosing my days and making sure I was always present at home. My daughter was a super easy baby, wife had no problem handling her solo. Son arrived he was the clingiest, whiniest baby you could imagine and leaving her at home with him and a 2 year old didn't work out quite as well. But I chipped away getting out when I could and killed a great buck on the last day of the archery season the year he was born.

Now they are 3 and 5 so it's getting a little easier to be away. I have daycare pickup I can't hunt evenings 2 days a week and I still try to limit having wife having to do solo bedtime. So I mostly hunt mornings and a few evenings selectively when the planets align. Once daylight savings goes away that helps for evening hunts as I am home for bed time.

I really need to embrace that this season as we have the tiebreaker on the way next spring. I wanted to be done at 2, needless to say I lost that negotiation.

Congrats!

Looks like you are only about an hour from me. I've hunted up in the water gap area a bit. Not so much lately since we had a kid.

I grew up in Newton, NJ and then got married and moved a half hour west! Prior to this year, my butchering setup was in NJ and so is my favorite taxidermist... I still work in Newton, NJ.

Well, at least you got to “negotiate” a while:)

What would you do?
It’s currently 1:50 and been raining since 11 and about to quit in the next half hour. The temp is 55 with a north wind of 10-15. I feel like I should leaving to get into a tree now.
Problem is I have to pick my kid up from school and wait for wife to get home. Realistically wouldn’t get into a tree till 5.
The last thing I want to do is blow out deer that are already up and moving.
Would you gamble and try and sneak in or wait till morning?

Having your kid walk home and leaving your wife a note probably wouldn’t go over well would it?

The answer is always to hunt lol. Realistically, that's your decision... I would either hunt and take my time getting in while watching my wind and being super stealthy, or I would choose to hunt a different location. You know better what you're up against with local patterns and terrain! Maybe stay on the fringes vs. going "deep".

I see to potential outcomes if I was to do that.
1. My hunting season would be over.
2. I’d be able to hunt every day because I’d be living in a tent in the woods.
My wife said I shouldn’t give advice.

Anyone out trying to put points on the board.

5 more days and a wakeup here until the season comes in. Another month until it gets very good.

My old farts baseball team just got knocked out of the playoffs. Not saying I was rooting against us but winning would have meant 3 weeks to come of choosing between hunting or playing baseball and when you're part of a team there's really not much of a choice more an obligation.

My stupid dog found one of them. I called my wife from the tree told her I had one down and another I needed to find. I asked her to bring me the cart, knife and a tarp. Yeah I wasn’t a good Boy Scout. She is kind and brought the stuff and brought our dog. We start following blood. Fairly crappy trail. Wife and dog go off somewhere I didn’t see where because I was looking for blood. Ten minutes later my phone rings. It’s Mindy she says “can you come over her”. First I say why then where are you. She tells me buddy found my deer. Saved me a lot of work.
