Good job!

I got out last night for my first sit ever in Juneau County in WI. Went in close to a bedding area I scouted early June. Was underwhelmed by the lack of fresh sign last night but ended up getting in a tree on a pretty good trail. Wind was wonky. Didn’t see anything. Should have went with my gut and kept scouting until I found better sign.

spent all day building an extension on the deck at the camper today so didn’t end up making it out today.

Sat this morning and saw 2 12" spike bucks and a doe. The 2 bucks where in cover so thick I could barely make them out with binocs at 30 yards. The doe came out on a tote road at about 35 yards and turned toward me but there was a fir branch blocking her head and I couldn't tell what she was. She stood there for a minute and I got my binos on her but see bolted. She may have picked me going for my binos or smelled me I don't know. The wind was pretty wishy washy this morning. Darkest colored deer I have ever seen. Really wanted to shoot her. I'll be going out again after work today.

Nice work. Now that we look professional we should definitely start climbing that leaderboard!!
The goal for me is to get at least three sits in this weekend. Temps are still warm here but a small cold front with a few rain showers for the weekend so that should help.

Let's see I put in sits last Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and this Wednesday. Last Wednesday I jumped a big buck bedded down about 40 yards from the tree I was going to. Saw a fox and 4 racoons the rest of the night. Friday I had a fox come right out the trail I was hoping deer would use. The spot was so thick I was really hoping it was a deer cause I couldn't see much until he popped out. Saturday night I had 2 bears come right up to my tree just as I stepped on my platform. I didn't have my bow pulled up yet and I was really worried they were going to screw around with it. Fortunately they bolted out of there like bats out of hell which I was really surprised about. I guess they didn't get the memo that out bear season was closed indefinitely this year. Usually they hang around and try to climb my tree anyway. I'm leaving in the morning for a day and a half of sika hunting, coming back home on Sunday. The weather is finally cooling off around here so hopefully more deer will be on their feet next week. Also this is the worse year I've ever seen for mosquitos so I'm really looking forward to a good frost.

Tomorrow PA archery starts! I'm ready! Although, the wife wants to hunt this year, so I told her to hunt the morning and I'll sleep in with our son. I'll get a good afternoon sit in though. None of my target bucks are really patterned right now, so if I get a crack at a doe...

Sat again tonight and saw 1 of those 2 spike bucks I saw Monday morning. Had him broadside at 17 yards long enough to shoot him 1/2 dozen times. Had all I could do not to put a hole through him but 2 of the 3 shooter bucks in my hunting area are still showing up on my cameras. I'm getting an itchy trigger finger though so those spikes better be careful and not tempt me too many times :tearsofjoy: I have a weird situation around my hunting area. I seem to have more bucks than does which sounds nice but doesn't help me fill the freezer.

Good luck to the both of you. Better hope she doesn't shoot a bigger buck than you this year or you'll never live it down :tearsofjoy:

Twas the night before hunting season and all through the house the kids were running wild and dad was frantically scrambling through bins, totes and drawers. Mom is nowhere near as excited by the magic of this sacred ritual.

I think I found everything except I discovered I forgot to clean my field knife from the the last deer I killed last year...yuck. Also need to order more Havalon blades.

First couple hunts of the year are always a bit of a firedrill! Sometimes I wish I was a little more like you dweebs that practice climbing all summer. Then again I stopped by Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and they were 5 deep buying bows and crossbows, so I do have those geniuses beat I've been shooting all month and broadhead tuned my stuff today. I got my Slowtech shooting DARTS downrange. Dem deers are just gonna give up.

Every year when I reflect back on this glorious night I remember way back to the year 2000 when the world was a lot simpler place. I was so giddy for my first legal bowhunt I slept approximately zero hours, zero minutes, and zero seconds. Fn straight up laying in bed dreaming of big old bucks all night long the ole mind was in overdrive. I don't even remember the hunt but a boy became a man that day. Now I sleep soundly but the spirit remains. LET'S GO BOYS! And girls if we have any!

Congrats Red, any Sika is quite an accomplishment. How's the pressure down there this year?

My opening morning snafu was my phone battery dying in the night so I awoke at my usual 630 AM. Since I was running so late decided to ground hunt a bit and scout.

I very nearly got a shot at a nice 8 prob around 110-120" buck. Too bad it wouldn't have counted. I've never shot a buck from the ground though I'd be kinda tickled to.

Been after this dude for 4 years looks like he was a ghost last year. Guessing he died in 2019. Screenshot_20211002-120518_Gallery.jpgI have a couple of his sheds. I found a big shoulder blade right near his bed and spent 10 minutes looking for the rest of him.
