Team 7 Thread

Gonna be putting in what will likely be my last sit of the season tonight. Got a favorable wind and hopefully enough clouds to keep the thermal action to a minimum for a great pinch point that should either get me busted or produce a 20 yard shot on a doe.

good luck sir!

Nice work @ofor. Unfortunately I didn't get it done tonight. Had a group of three deer come through earlier than expected from the direction I didn't expect them too. Second deer in line was a pretty respectable 3.5 year old 8 that I spent too long deciding if he was a shooter when I should have been drawing on the lead doe. I believe someone had a post in the lessons learned thread that went something along the lines of "if you aren't sure a deer is a shooter, it's not"; very true words. I don't expect to get back out before my season closes, but maybe I'll get lucky.

Yeah I thought for sure I’d have more time and it’s just not happening, went out last weekend for a short sit just to drop my bow when I got home getting out of my truck and now after shooting it’s obvious my sight was knocked off more then I thought. I may take the xbow out not sure though about that.

I had my final sit yesterday afternoon. Saw 6 and was at full draw 3 times so got very close to putting another 5 points on the board but didn’t end up releasing any arrows. Let’s just say I learned a few lessons on this sit. Pretty fun way to finish the season. Thanks for taking me along on the team 7 train this year.

Today is our last day for statewide archery. Been chasing this big 9 point around the state forest all season, but I don't think I'll be so picky today. Really wanting to put one more deer in the freezer.

I had him and 3 other bucks browsing just out of range on Saturday. Also saw a different bachelor group in the same area a few days before that.

I killed a buck on January 31st last year, hoping I can repeat that today!

No such luck. Had 2 decent 8 points and a bigger bodied, really nice 6 point working their way toward me, but they veered off and stayed 40+ yards out. I don't know if their antlers (pedicles) start to itch when they're about to drop, or if it's a photoperiod thing and a buck just knows it's about that time of year after he's shed a couple sets, but that 6 point wanted his antlers off bad... He kept shaking his head hard, tilting it way back and pushing his antlers into his back, and trying to get the other bucks to spar. Thought for sure I was gonna watch them fall off his head, but they held strong. Bet they drop within the next day or 2 though.

Sounds like it's shed season real soon for you

Well, I thought my Sunday sit was going to do it for the season but I managed to sneak out of work early today for a last day of season sit. This guy was bedded in the area last night along with a couple others. Had a parade of 6 come through just after 5:00 but they were 40 yards out as they hustled through my shooting lane and I couldn’t find an opening as they slowed to a walk. At least 2 were bucks. 277 days till the 2023 opener!
