Team 7 Thread

Put in sits on Friday night, Saturday morning and evening and this morning. Had one blowing at me while I packed up in the dark Saturday night. Just didn’t close the distance before last light. I’ve been getting some good ones on camera but all the activity since last Tuesday has been after dark.

So I totally spaced off that I was going to be out of town for work the next 3 days, so now I’ll have to take my early lunch break tomorrow and go back and grab my stuff out of the tree I was planning on sitting in. Oh well I’ll get mg “ steps “ in before the 5 hour drive.

Sounds like you need to take the afternoon off for that operation

I have 11 days until rifle season, going to try to get anything legal on the ground. After my doe I've passed on couple young bucks and a doe that acted like it had a buck in tow. It's warm here so targeting creek crossings and water holes. I'll have 9 days off during rifle season!

I’m in Deer Hell, USA right now. Saw 2 does at dusk through the spotting scope. Did see a coyote as well. This whole
Open country stuff is new to me (hence the “Deer Hell” moniker, lol), but we’ll make something happen. Hopefully.

Historically the first 3 days in November have been good in this spot I’m sitting, let’s hope the trend continues. Im feeling somewhat of a pessimist though because when I got to check my cams on the way in yesterday, they had been dead since Oct. 16th. So idk what’s going on atm. But I’m hoping it’s business as usual! Goodluck!!

Well yesterday was a bit more productive. Saw 2 bucks yesterday morning that were sporting a combined 300+ inches. Everything seems to like one particular drainage. Saw one of the bucks from the morning yesterday afternoon from the tree and another 10 pt we hadn’t seen before. I would say he’s 140’s. I’m not really big on inches and I can promise you if I shoot a behemoth he’s going to get his rack sawn off, but I figured that’s the best perspective across the board to tell you the quality of the deer were finding.

Whichever one has more scorable points for the contest is the one you should go after, lol. Sounds like a nice little honey hole you've found. Looking forward to a post loaded with pics of one of these giants

Mid-day movement has been really good here despite the warm weather. October 24th I had a 4.5 yr old P&Y 8 point at 27 yards at 12:15 in the afternoon and couldn't get a shot. Hunted the same spot the next day, but made a minor adjustment in my set-up. At 1pm a forky ran a doe past me at 5 yards, she got downwind of me and they blew out of there. Then around 2:30 that big 8 point came barrelling down the same trail as the doe and forky. He was moving pretty quick through thick cover and I didn't want to let him get down wind, so I drew back and tried to stop him when he stepped into my first opening at 5 yards. Well that was a mistake... He absolutely turned inside out and bolted out of there as I was pulling through my shot. Luckily I missed him clean. Lesson learned... Don't try to stop a deer that close. Should have just shot him walking, or let him get a little farther out before trying to stop him... I was sitting on the ground in a blowdown so it wouldn't have counted for the contest, but man that one stung...

Tuesday I took a ride to a neighboring state for a quick scout/hunt. Got there around 1pm and as I was getting ready in the parking lot I watched a buck cross the road into the public land. I grabbed my bow and binos, followed him into the woods and got a visual on him at 100+ yards heading into some thick stuff. A loud single grunt stopped him dead in his tracks. He stared in my direction for a minute or 2 but became uninterested when he didn't see a deer. As soon as he turned to take a step away from me I did another loud deep grunt. He turned that step toward me and came in on a string. I was tucked in a little cluster of saplings at full-draw, and thought he was gonna walk right into me. I thought about taking a frontal if he kept coming, but he turned at 8 yards and gave me a better angle. Made a good shot, watched him go down, and my hunt was over in a total of about 5 minutes. Maybe the next one will be from the saddle... Can't make any promises though. Man it's fun calling them in from the ground like that!

Congrats! I agree, nothing like being up close like that and getting it done.

I had a doe come by at 9am and that was it for a full day sit. A painful full day sit I might add. Seems weird… idk if I should pick up and move or wait it out? There’s usually action in this area right now.
