I just reread your post. Don't you mean downwind? You see any deer yet? Maybe look in the other direction. :D
I'll be out Sunday morning. This may explain alot of my issues bj. Lol
I'll be hunting a swamp, maybe I'll try to play the current. Picture Rambo underwater with a reed snorkle....

The regular archery season here in TN opens in about 12 hours, and I feel like a kid with a BB gun-shaped package under the tree on Christmas Eve! Hoping to get enough work done tonight to be able to get after em in the morning.

I went hunting today at around 11:30. I got in the tree about 12:30. I was wearing my finest Timberpimp top. I didn't see anything. Then, at 4PM, a hunter comes walking through and passes by at 15 yards without spotting me. As he was just passing I clicked the handle on my Madrock Safeguard three times and he looked around and then finally looked up. I waved to him and he waved back and muttered something about not knowing anyone was hunting there and proceeded on. I thought, great he might push some deer back to me. He goes about 40 yards away and starts climbing a ladder stand which I did not see since I hadn't gone that far into the woods. We were facing away from each other so we had the area covered. We were on public so anything goes. I didn't mind. Any deer in front of him I could not have shot and vice versa. After about 10 minutes I spot a single bush moving at about 40 yards in front of me with no other bushes moving. I thought it was a deer browsing. The wind was wrong. The movement stopped and I saw no more movement after that. The other hunter was standing up with bow ready looking at something. After 10 minutues he sat down. After a time I thought I would try a fawn bleat on my deer call. The slider was all the way at the end and I let out a grunt instead of a bleat. I waited about 10 minutes then let out a fawn bleat. Nothing happened after that . I came out of the woods just as it was getting dark. I didn't want to stumble out in darkness again. Tomorrow I'm moving over about 200 feet and setting up in a different tree. I'm psyched. I saw deer moving trees. I found out where they are hiding. :D
Me in cool modern tree saddle.

Other hunter in old fashioned antique tree stand.

Season starts in the morning, but I dont hunt mornings til mid October or so. I been planning for weeks now to go hit some public this weekend, but I've got a couple good bucks using my private in the evenings... thinking about going there tomorrow evening and trying to score one early for meat and then hunt the rest of the season for a big deer.Screenshot_20200925-181316_Tactacam Reveal.jpg

Let's go!

Nice Doe, @redsquirrel .

I was in a tree for 5 hours today. I only saw a box turtle. I will try again Monday.
I sat the other afternoon and kept hearing something real loud moving is some dry palm fronds.....I kept hearing it off and on and it was real close but never saw anything... It kept getting louder and I finally grabbed the bow thinking maybe a hog rooting around... Finally caught glimpse of a box turtle walking thru the fronds....found something louder than an armadillo....

Pictures of the turtle or it never happened. :D

Made my first sit of the year this evening. Have been having some deer move through here in the evenings but since acorns have started dropping the action has gotten a lot less. But I didnt have time to go anywhere else. All I seen was 1 coon and he left before I could swap arrows. Had to setup in a crazy crooked leaner, and if a deer would of came by I'm full confident it would of worked. Went to get down and dropped my thermacell into the slough below and it made a nice sizzling sound as it sank lol. Got packed up, fished the thermacell out and made it about 150 yards out and flipped on my headlamp and deer went to blowing... overall a good first day! Not sure if I'll get to go again til next weekend...Screenshot_20200926-202103_Gallery.jpg20200926_202214.jpg

I had a pleasant day hunting today except for the walk out which I posted in another thread. As I was getting ready a man came out of the trail and asked me if I was hunting from a saddle. He uses tree stands but was curious about saddle hunting. I told him about saddlehunter.com and offered to let him try climbing SRT. He said he didn't want to take up my hunting time and I told him some other time we could get together. He put out a trail camera just before we talked. Maybe we will have a new member of SH.
I went into the woods and found a spot I had previously marked in Onxhunt. I found a nice crotch and threw the throwball 25 feet up. It took me about 5 tries. After a few tries , I thought about just using my Electrical Conduit Rope Pusher pole which I carry just in case. I climbed up and sat for an hour and then it started raining. I used that as an opportunity to go back to my truck and get my other partially completed saddle which I thought would make a great Big Brown Back Band (BBBB). The rain was off and on all day. The following extremely short videos explain most of my day. I saw no deer.

Heading home after a successful trip - took us 4 days to find them and figure out how to catch them, but ended on a good note

Hanging over my little wooded micro-plot now. Would be happy with a doe or coyote, thrilled with a good buck. Fingers crossed I’ll be adding to our score tonight!
