TEAM 8 Discussion Thread

I’m off tomorrow and planned to hunt a drawn WMA. I decided to check my permit to make sure I’m still legal since gun season opens next week. Turns out it’s closed to give the area a rest. Crap!

Gotta figure out plan b quick.

Damn it's cold! I'm getting ready to head out, still undecided as to where.... my cell cam had 4 bucks so far tonight pushing doe's, so it should be good!

28 degrees here. I'm finally setup. My first tree wouldnt work after setting my sticks, so I moved about 5 yards and reset up. While I was setting the platform 2 doe's came in and started eat acorns. I managed to get tethered in and bow pulled up and on the hook with them at 40 yards. Then it happened, you know the feeling of getting a tickle in your throat, I was gonna cough... I managed to suppress it but whatever was there wouldnt come loose. Finally got my backpack off and water bottle out. Took a sip and the cough came, look around the tree and theres the doe's looking at me... I got my pack hung up and they stood around another 3 or 4 minutes and took off. Never blew so that's a win

The saddle that looked so promising on Topo ended up being bisected by the main road through this property. Tons of people sign, not much for deer sign, but I’m tethered in and will see what happens.

I always have cough drops in my pack. They have earned their keep more than a few times. Three young kids at home means someone is sick all the time. The only thing worse is diarrhea.

Shot my recurve (a hand me down Bear that was my dads bow as a young hunter) a bit when I got home. One of my goals for the season is to be proficient enough to take it in the woods for real. Skill wise I’m there, but with a very limited range.

I’m torn between taking it out and intentionally limiting myself when the rut is coming on. My secret plan was to take a deer early with compound then recurve the rest of the way. That first part hasn’t happened yet, hence the quandary.

Anybody on the team shoot trad?

This is my first year going back to Trad after about 20 years away. I grew up hunting with a recurve but got away from bowhunting all together during college. After several years of hunting with a xbow, I decided to go back to Trad equipment this year. I am currently hunting with the first of about 50 recurves my dad built years ago.

@EricS started off with a recurve this year but, I think he went back to his compound for his two deer he shot.

Was all I owned for 6 seasons. I’m short on time to stay proficient. I’m using a Mathews Triax now to maximize my time in the woods.

Them 2 doe's is all I seen this morning. Finally got Cold and got down a little after 10. Went and had lunch with the wife and kids and now fixing to head back out. Got 2 spots in mind, ain't decided on one yet but will on the fly...

Wow, I wasn’t expecting that many folks to chime in. That’s great.

So since all you have way more experience with it than me, is it crazy to take a recurve for a sit when my max range is about 15 yards?
