TEAM 8 Discussion Thread

Wow, I wasn’t expecting that many folks to chime in. That’s great.

So since all you have way more experience with it than me, is it crazy to take a recurve for a sit when my max range is about 15 yards?

That depends on if you would be happier killing a deer with a recurve and potentially watching a big buck just out of your kill zone or not.

That’s a good point, and I’d be way more happy with success using recurve.

I was more asking if that level of proficiency is something you’d be comfortable with in a hunting situation. I personally draw the line at 20 yards normally, but don’t have much more than 5 months experience shooting recurve instinctive.

My Max range is 15 yds and was only 20 yds when I had been shooting for years. I figured I lowered my range so I will just lower my standards to compensate. Won't take a very big buck for me to loose an arrow.

So my son and I got to camp tonight and discovered we have no power at our camper. Won't be back on until tomorrow evening. Low is 27 tonight, gonna be a cold one.

Well, it happened. I was sabotaged! I got to the tree at noon and opened up my pack to find myself without my lineman’s and tether. My wife “cleaned” my work bench for a home showing. It isn’t her fault I should have checked that everything was accounted for.

I gave some serious thought to ending the hunt right there. Looking around I saw a freshly fallen tree that was wedged in the crotch of another tree. I climbed up to that point and stood on an 8” branch for over 6 hours. It was miserable.

A nubby was all that was shootable. But I did get to see several 2.5yo bucks and a bunch of rut activity which made it all worth it.

Never crazy if you except the limits of your gear! Speaking from personal experience shots can happen fast and close in the whitetail woods and a trad bow is perfect for that! Also you’ll never kill one with the recurve if you don’t bring it! Go kill something with it!

Looks like my kite is going to work well under my coveralls for the cold weather thats coming for gun season. The slits work perfectly to pull the loops out.

I didn't see a thing this afternoon. Went to a spot that should of been a slam dunk for a doe, but it also had fresh scrapes but didnt see or hear a thing. I haven't decided if I'm going to go in the morning, I can only sit til 9:00

We're finally going to cool off a little in Florida. High 50s on Sunday morning. Hopefully that will get them moving a little. Hunting my favorite private property this weekend with a favorable wind direction. Everything is setting up to be ideal conditions.

I got out yesterday and saw 4 different bucks. One of them was a respectable 8. But I haven’t seen a real shooter yet.

I elected to sleep in since I could only sit until 9.had the right wind and was gonna make a play on a buck bed I found in September while squirrel hunting, but tomorrows conditions are supposed to be the same so I decided to save it.

Frosty 26 deg this morning. Been a rough morning so far, couldn't decide on a tree, then climbed up and forget to hook up my bow, back down to I go. As I was setting up a spike walked in. Got my bow pulled up with him in sight but dropped my tab. The Spike teased me at 20 yards three different times but didn't get closer.then I had to get everything going up with my bow in the tree which screwed up my process. Not sure I would have shot him first 15 min of a three day hunt anyway.

Hopefully things get better
