TEAM 8 Discussion Thread

I may still get a buck. But i’m going to Georgia for a late Christmas with my family there this weekend. After I get back, if I can get back to the public land a couple hours away, I have at least a possibility of killing a buck. I found some really good sign, just haven’t had opportunity to follow up.

I'll see what happens, I got the flu Thursday afternoon. Guy at work took two of us out, I'm pissed. I haven't been sick in six years. See I let those does walk three weeks ago, now I'm paying for it. Mannnnnn

Good luck! I'm working 12s all week so I can take Saturday and Sunday off. Hopefully I can stick a doe this weekend.

Well it was nice being out in the woods post flu but i didn't even see a deer. I didn't have the energy for public land so i went to my uncles which i know well. Thought i would cut the deer off on the way to the powerline (food) but no deer. The neighbor sent me a text that he shot a doe. I'm sure most of the deer in the area are staying close to his house because he feeds the deer corn all year and his neighbor is a baiter as well. I'm not a bait guy obviously, so i'll continue to "hunt" the deer down. I'll hit some public and a suburban spot up before the buzzer. Fingers crossed lol.

I'm getting ready to hit some public. Hoping a doe comes by in range! I hung a camera in this area a few weeks ago, we'll see if it's still there and If theres been much use of the area since gun season ended.

I'm headed out right now to hang in a tree beside my dad who just got his saddle a few weeks ago. Plan is he shoots the first doe that comes in, I'll shoot the first buck. This will definitely be my last hunt of the year.
Good luck to you and your dad! I hope you both see some action!

We had a pretty comical evening, at least to me. We were hanging about 30 yds apart and could see each other. I sent him a text about 30 min before dark (which was my mistake). As soon as I put my phone away I noticed a deer standing less than 15 yds from me. Then another and another, I'm guessing there were about 7-8 deer less then 15 yds from me and less then 25 yds from my dad.

As I'm watching the deer, I glance over to my dad and see he is looking at his phone and responding to my text. When he is done he puts his phone away and must have made a noise because every deer snapped their head up and stared at him. Then the woods explodes with white tails going every direction. I watch the deer run off and look back over to my dad and he is swaying side to side with his head on his bridge. He never saw a single deer. I'm still not sure he believes me. Lol.

This is the way.

I had an interesting evening. It was a beautiful day so I expected a lot of people to be out on the public and I was right. Seen 8 people riding horses, 20 mountain bikers, 2 dirt bike riders, 6 or 8 trucks of people just riding around and 5 trucks hunting. There was a truck parked where I wanted to go, I was going to head for a spot I been aerial scouting but decided not to and to head to a spot I scouted 3 years ago but hadnt been back to since. Soon as I parked there was a doe and fawn 30 yards from the truck watching me... well they left and I grabbed my stuff and started in. Made a 3 mile loop and found very little sign, never took my pack off or attempted to climb a tree. The entire area was just dead, was very surprised. Maybe I'll get to get out again soon, and I'll check out the new areas then!

The public land buck I've been chasing seems to have moved onto private land. I hunted Friday and Saturday and slept in the back of my truck Friday night. It rained all day Friday. At night it rained and hailed. I was sleeping in the back of my truck and that was some of the best sleep ever! When my alarm went off at 5 it was still pouring rain. I slept in till 7. I think I enjoy truck camping about as much as hunting. Honestly, this time of year, the camping is more fun. I may not be able to get out again before season ends next weekend. I'll be in Louisville, KY Monday and Tuesday for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Chaplain training. If I do get out again, I'll probably be taking a boy from church hunting.
