Team 8 ready!!!

I went out this morning and bumped some deer on my way in. Then as i was getting closer to the tree i wanted to be in i heard something, didnt know what it was. I thought maybe a Turkey? Then i saw it up in a tree,it was a fisher growling at me. So i had to adjust and move some. I did have 5 does race past me at some point at 20 yds but no way they were going to stop. Eventful sit bit no points...

Is that a cat or what?
It is a weasel on steroids. Nothing in the woods messes with it. Five sharp ends on it.
I would say they are about 24 to 32 inches long without the tail. They climb trees and romp around on the ground. They eat chipmunks, squirrels, chickens and porcupines, amongst other things. Coyotes wont mess with them. They of course want nothing to do with humans. I never heard one make that sound before. They used to be rare in my area but have made a serious comeback.

I am heading out in the morning and going to one of my favorite places to hunt. It is a funnel in the middle of bedding in a marsh. It is about a mile walk in and I only hunt this area a few times a year but it has produced many deer over the years, both bucks and does. It should be a frosty morning with a very light wind from the north, perfect conditions for this area. I am going out to pack my gear now so I can go to bed and get up at 2 am so I will be positioned well before light.

Good luck @Swampman. I almost got a doe tonight,i was about a mile into state land in a bunch of oaks by a field with thick cover on the other side..I climbed a giant oak tree, must have been 3' diameter at the base. I could barely get the predator strap around the trunk after the trunk split into two about 18' up. Yay for DRT. One lone fat doe came through just out of range, about 40 yds and moving.
I had a great time,i never hunted that area and scouted until i found hot sign, very fresh poop and lots of it in this case. I got very close, but no prize. Maybe tomorrow,i will hunt two different areas.

Fellas, I told my church this morning that I’m now a Navy Chaplain. God clearly called me to this and he opened doors that were shut. I’m waiting for the detailer to call and give me firm dates. I’ll probably be staying here until late January. I’ll continue to serve as Pastor at Mt. Repose Church until the Navy gives me orders. Then, I'll be off to Officer Development School, Chaplain School, and then a deployment with either the Navy or the Marines. This may be my last hunting season. I'll try to work in some hunting when I can in future years.

Amen brother! Hey, it doesn't have to be your last season hunting though. You get leave and you'll have duty-free weekends. :D And if you get on with the Marines, you may get stationed on some bases (Quantico, etc.) with pretty good deer populations!

Sorry... I'll go back to my Team 9 hole now.

Well my morning was pretty much a bust. I was in the tree an hour and a half before shooting light and took a nap. I was awoken about 20 minutes before shooting light by a deer running right past my tree. The moon was out and I could see it was a very nice buck. A few minutes later I saw what pushed the deer past me, people. I could hear them talking but couldn't see them. A little while after shooting light I hear duck calling followed by shooting. I was set up along a creek in the marsh and these people were walking up and down the creek bank shooting at wood ducks. At one point one of the hunters walked within 45 yards of me. I made sure the tree was between us so I wouldn't get pelted with steel shot.

I stayed in the tree until about 9:30 and made my way back to the parking lot. The duck hunters were there too and I talked with them for about 30 minutes. I now have a contact of a guy with a goid tracking job and they said to give them a call if I ever need help getting a deer out of the marsh. I guess the morning wasn't a total bust.

Well, I killed that big 10 point. But we won’t get any team points for it because I shot it out of a ground blind. Sorry guys but there just were not any trees where I needed one. I’ll try to get us two does from the saddle.
I shot this buck at 6:20 PM Sunday evening. I did not make a great shot somehow and would not have found it if I hadn’t been using blood glow. That stuff is awesome!! I spent all night dragging it out of the woods uphill. And I just got home about 6 AM. I actually had a pretty full day planned today LOL! But I think I’m gonna take a shower and then take a nap9F4A3A50-5A86-4923-981C-2FF4C4DE908E.jpeg.
