Team 8 Thread

Going to give it a go this weekend, I plan to sit Saturday morning and evening and Sunday morning. Got a raccoon on my last sit a few weeks ago, hopefully I can upgrade to at least a doe. The G5 small game heads work very well.

How you guys making it?! Last night didn’t pan out. Everything was right besides the bad weather. Wind was good, pre-rut chase is on, was in a solid set up on a big 8 with a kicker on his 2. Just didn’t make an appearance. Went into my swamp to hang a cam last week, saw 6 deer walking in and 3 solid bucks… Only deer I spooked was a doe the rest didn’t know what I was and walked off. Hoping opener of rifle Saturday is the ticket but looking like a washout. I’ll be there rain or shine, just don’t know if I’ll be bringing filming equipment. Good luck guys! Hammer on the slick heads for some easy points!

I’m in the saddle right now, chilly morning but the dry weather is a relief. I had two come in before shooting light. Just had a doe go through the corn at 25 we will see if anything is following her.

Good luck and stay safe.

Not 30 seconds after I posted that it got a little wild. A spike was following the doe and I’m not interested in shooting him on this property. I hear a loud crash behind me and I catch a coyote running by. He would walk out in to the corn field and run off with the spike checking a scrape on the field edge. Not a minute after he runs through the corn I hear more crashing coming from where the yote just came from. I turn and it is two does being chased by a buck. They never slowed down and I wouldn’t have had a shot at 50 through some trees but it was still very fun. I’m pretty sure it was the standing deer in this photo. 185F71BC-0BC0-4BD8-A5F0-CAE175BC3564.jpeg

Those are the sites you remember! Thanks for sharing man

So I’m on my Missouri hunting trip and I have had some rough luck last year and then again this year. Yesterday I had this buck that I shot today come in and he was at 20 yards damn near broadside. Draw back he looks up and I let the arrow fly and it hit just high and into no mans land. I felt terrible because I strive to be as ethical as possible. Today I move one ridge over and that same buck comes back in at me and gave me an 8 yard shot. I hit both lungs and clipped the heart. He took 5 steps and dropped. I confirmed it was the same buck from the fresh wound on his back. I had tracked him for 2 hours only finding blood at the point of impact yesterday. It makes my heart feel good to finish this on a positive note. Meat in the freezer.

Congrats man! Also way to get some more points up!

On my way back from MO to MN and plan to get out this weekend and see if I can get something going at home. Need to do a quick scout and hunt Saturday evening. Had a huge rub line I want to check out from last year to see if it’s in use again. But I probably won’t set up on it since those can be so hit or miss. Still trying to figure out their bedding patterns, but I believe they’re bedding all on private lands. Black circle on the right denotes the rub line and the circle on the left shows where I believe they’re cruising the ridge line.

How is it going for everyone? I haven’t gotten to pull the trigger yet and it appears they are heading in to lock down. Sitting until 2 today then got to pick up the kids. I’ve seen atleast 11 today a whole lot better than the one yesterday.

There's one I've been going after for 3 seasons still giving me the slip. I can only get into the area on a rare northeast wind. I went in for a day last week and he has the place tore up with scrapes and rubs. I'll be patiently waiting and hunting different spots until then.

They went rut crazy after the cold front last week and then have been radio silent since Saturday afternoon. Hoping to tag my target 8 point on Friday morning after the new moon. It’s my last chance before rifle season opens Saturday and my neighbors get a chance. Of course I unknowing booked a discounted quail hunt Saturday morning a few months back. So I won’t be chasing deer with a rifle until Sunday.
