Team 8 Thread

Same here we’re usually covered in scrapes by now. I can’t seem to get into them this year

Little spike was all I saw yesterday. Back up this morning on a T in ridge tops where three edges come together. Seems like a good spot but this is the first sit here. I was already running late when the warden decided I wasn’t quite late enough for a quick check.

My oldest has a pretty gnarly UTI so I spent yesterday evening at urgent care getting her looked at. Of course one of my target bucks daylighted.

Big front coming in tonight, plan to bee in a tree by noon with stick bow in hand.

Hey guys!
Sorry I haven't been on in awhile. Between covering shifts for a sick co-worker and being involved with a major project, work is sucking the life out of me. And they wonder why I want to retire early!
I've been getting after it in whatever free time I have though, bouncing around and trying new areas. Had a real close encounter early yesterday morning with a 3 1/2 year old 10 point. He came in on my exposed side at eye level so I couldn't move to take the shot. Then he got behind some evergreens only to pop out 50 yards away and push a couple of does, that I was watching feed, further up the hillside.
Last night I had three does come in before sunset so I took one to get meat in the freezer and points on the board.
Set up real early this morning hoping that 10 point would cruise by again but he never did. Got a heavy bodied 8 point somewhere on the hill behind my house that I'm going after this evening.
My buddy in PA let me know the rut is in full swing where he is so that's where I'll be hunting tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

High of 78 today, low of 42 at sunrise as front passes through. If this doesn’t get em moving, nothing will.

Problem is it’s full on rifle season where I’m hunting. Not quite sure how I want to approach the spot I’m hunting. I might be the guy yelling about lazy gun hunters and their ladder stands soon!

This will be a new experience for me. But I’ve got white oaks dropping and deer and hogs tearing em up.

Daughter had a veterans day program at school that I had to be at, was able to get in a tree around 11. About 130 I could barely hear some Jays flipping out upwind of me. Not 5 minutes later I catch the buck moving about 60 yards from me. I gave him a couple grunts and a snort wheeze. He angled to get down wind of me and came right to the base of the tree. Shot him at 10 yards away. How he didn't smell me I have no idea.

Watched him for 150 yards or so. Got down went to where I last saw him. No blood. Shot a message to a local blood tracker for a dog. Packed my stuff and backed out. Looped down a fencerow just in case I could see him, sure as **** there he lay. ~400 yards from the hit. Backtracked blood for ~100 yards.

Saw a doe early today with two bucks chasing her. Came back by later with just one of them still on her but not one I want to shoot. Weather is changing after today so maybe that’s when it’ll really get going.

Heading back out in a few, sat all day yesterday and nothing. But the rut is picking up so who knows. I just got some exciting news. A friend showed me some pics of a 160 class 12 pt that’s been daylighting on the neighbors property. Excited to hunt a deer of that quality around here!

Scouted a few areas today and found lots of sign but not worth hunting. Got myself in a river bottom now which has good cover and plenty of acorns.20221112_161122.jpg

Snow on the ground here today. Got all my gear sitting in front of heater outlets trying to dry it for tomorrow. The morning hunt is my last early season bowhunt. I've got to haul the camper home tomorrow then swap out gear and come back for our rifle opener on Tuesday.

My wife gifted me a nasty head/chest cold this past week. I was hoping to be able to make it out at least once this weekend but I’m still feeling it. Should be able to get out in the morning this coming week.

I’ve got the second weekend of the park hunt Fri-Sun so hoping that movement better this time around!

Same luck here. Plan was to go out this weekend- rifle opener and great cold front coming in. Unfortunately, the wifey is not feeling well, so we stayed home so she could rest and I could watch the kids. What happens at 7am in the tree I planned on sitting? Hit list #1 comes walking right on in. Go figure...

Nothing huge but the way my seasons been going I’ll take him.
