Team 8 thread

Good evening fellas!! How many of team 8 are in a tree this evening????
Not me, season here in AR doesn't open until Saturday.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet, this summer I'd found more shooter bucks than ever, in anticipation of our early buck hunt, but in the 3 weeks since the bucks I'd found have all but vanished and my cams have gone cold... As of now, I'm planning to go Friday and check a few non cell cams, scout for fresh sign, and move cell cams to said sign and see what I can turn up.

here in MI doesn't start till oct 1st going to be a challenge for me last time I actually hunted out of tree was almost20 years ago, first time hunting from a saddle and using a crossbow.I boxed hunted only for gun season.. I have high hope though!!!

I got out Saturday. It was the last day of a three day early muzzleloader hunt. This was my first time on the property. Had one give me the slip that morning. I hadn’t even climbed and saw one moving. Made a move to get ahead and waited but it never showed. Sat Saturday evening on the edge of a small 2 year old clearcut adjacent to a peanut field. I had a small creek with some oaks dropping behind me and I was overlooking the clear cut. I originally started climbing a water oak about 15 yards but after climbing my second stick I decided the vegetation was too high in the clearcut and I would have to setup just on the edge to see down in it. About 20 minutes before dark deer crossed the creek behind me moving my way fast and either smelled me or saw me. Either way it was really close. Like I could hear it and it sounded like it was just a few yards away but I couldn’t see it. It froze and just melted away. Showing up on the third day of the hunt you never know what kind of pressure a spot has gotten but I sure would have liked a morning sit in this spot.

Waitin for saturday and hopin the weatherman is wrong. Forecast right now looks really wet. Did not really plan to take the compound out but not going to hunt in the rain with a brand new set of arrows with feathers. Looking like it may be a good thing I got the wheels out and ran some arrows through it. Kind of a sometimes overlooked preparation, need to practice at least a little with the back up weapon. Never know when you may need it.

Ours opened the weekend before last. Haven’t shot my compound in a couple years so I grabbed the crossbow. Cocked it and found a cracked limb so I grabbed the compound and shot it enough to decide I needed to stay home that weekend. I feel ok hunting with it now but there were too many fliers that first day to try to hunt the next morning. Good luck Saturday.

Anyone hunting this weekend? Forecast here has improved considerably as far as rain goes but not going to have the best wind saturday and looks like more of it than I care for. Hoping it stays to the lower side of the forecasted speed.

Doubt I’ll hunt this weekend. I may take a squirrel dog pup to the woods as I check things out and access damage.

We should be good. We’re 120 miles from the gulf but people here don’t have shutters.

I'll be out Saturday. I went this evening and did some scouting and shifted a few cameras around, I'm ready to go!

For the weekend had 4 bucks in bow range during legal shooting hours, all dinks. 2 spikes and 2 4 points. Had a target buck just out of bow range. 4-5 does and a young buck came in at the end of shooting time and fed all the way around the tree I was in for a while Saturday evening. Had the buck, a nice 2yo, inside 10 steps 5 different times and 3 of the does in that same circle. Wasnt able to climb down til a little after 8pm waiting on them to leave so I could get down. Acorns are starting to drop and we have a massive crop up there.

I never even climbed a tree this weekend. Couldn't go Saturday, went Sunday and just scouted the whole time. Found some decent sign, hung couple cams and saw 3 does. I'll be back out on friday

Looks like it is gonna be hotter this weekend than last. Not sure if I will climb a tree or not. Still have 2 spots for sure that I want to get cams up. Might do a blind hunt in one and leave a cam but may just go hang 'em and call it good. Other option would be to go to the river and see if I can find some persimmons or locust to hang on. Hate being behind going into season but it happened this year.

Our statewide bow season opens Saturday but I will not be in a tree. The local public here is overrun with hunters, and you rarely see deer period, but much less bucks with sufficient antlers per PA restrictions, which is all I have a tag for in my home zone. I might get out for some squirrels with my FIL. Maybe if we bump some deer I'll change my mind, but for now I'm saving my time for later hunts in other areas.
