I went this evening, scouted around a bit, run some cams, saw 4 doe, got setup a bit before dark on best sign I found and didn't see anything. It's been terribly slow the last week, hopefully it'll pick up soon.
No sir, but getting all prepped for my first deer hunt of the season next weekend. So pumped!! But first, I have to get over this stupid headcold.Who all is hunting this weekend? I'm planning to do long morning hangs only because it is supposed to be low to mid 90's in the afternoon.
Congrats man!HUGE doe, I’m on the board!
Congrats!! I am officially on the struggle bus. Finally had the right wind friday to hang on the best buck I have on cam so far. All but I think 2 of the pics I have gotten have been evening. Made a scouting loop in a different area Friday morning and relocated to where I park to go in on the buck about 12:30. As I am pulling up to the little parking area I can see a vehicle, great. When I pull up it is a cargo van pulling an enclosed trailer that is open. There are a half dozen big chainsaws and at least that many commercial weedeaters with saw blade heads scattered around along with at least one gas can for every motor. Looked like a full blown yard sale. There are 7 guys there eating lunch so I hop out and ask where they are going to be working. The one guy that speaks a little english points away from where I am going, whew. Then I point where I am headed and ask to verify that they are not going up into my area. He says no, they finished that area that morning. I about puke. Has anyone ever had the buck you were hunting screwed up because a 7 man thinning crew cut through the cutover where your buck was living. On the same morning you plan to hunt him no less?HUGE doe, I’m on the board!
Haha that is super frustrating about the logging crew right in your preferred spot. That is unbelievable. Good mentality trying to regroup and find another strategyCongrats!! Punted and went to scout an area I planned to hang Saturday that is 1.5 miles deep for opening day of ML. Hadnt been in there since winter vefore last. Get back there and the community scrape had been recently opened and there was a good bit of feed sign on the white oaks. Hung a cam on the scrape and got in a tree. Saw 3 big does and 2 little ones that evening. Ended up being 3 hours from tree to the house so it was nearly 10:30 when I got home and I was going to have to get up at 3 to be on time for saturday morning. After a 5.5 mile day in the mountains and a 4 hour hang, I said screw that lol. Skipped Saturday and went back in to the spot I scouted Friday morning for my Sunday morning hang. Was set and ready about 6:15. Stayed in the tree until 11:00 and called it. Had a group of 6 longbeards come in but that was it for the morning. It was, that I could recall, the deadest hunt I have ever made. There was nothing moving, not even tweety birds. Didnt hear the first bird until after 10 and only heard 4-5 total, no skwerl barking or moving at all and no deer. Heard two shots.
So for my public hunting, it looks like I am going to be doing scout and hangs until I get on something worth hunting. The two spots I ended up hanging this weekend will both get more sets though. Good sign in the right kind of spots. Just need to figure out the travel so I can hunt them off the spots because the spots are obvious on the maps.

Congrats to you and @Marmuzz for knocking 'em down. I'm going to go up to my buddy's farm this weekend, well Thursday -Sunday. Fingers crossed I can find one to stand still in bow range.View attachment 109588
I shot this guy on public tonight. 12 points for us! I misjudged him because he came out fast at last light but it is what it is. At least the angle makes him look bigger last night on the private piece, I had a giant sneak up behind me downwind. I swung around and when I saw him he was at 40yds staring into my soul. He didn’t want t to be on the wall anyways.
