Team 9

The road I walked in on runs east to west. With the N,NE wind I dove in on the north side of the road...right off the road there was planted rows for maybe 75-100 yards then u hit the swamp edge. I stopped to turn on my ThermaCELL before I entered the swamp and heard hogs squeal.i took off in the direction of the noises...I saw movement and the tail of a pig swishing around in the palmettos....I had wind in my face so I sat there for a minute and notice there are pigs all over in the bottom around me...I waited to see how it was gonna play out...they would move off and I'd follow...we did this for maybe 10 minutes....there were pigs of all age groups ....tiny piglets , 20-50 pounders, couple bigger boars 80-100 pounds, and a big swollen tit sow..I wanted to shoot the sow and focused on her and stalked in...as I was waiting for her to present a shot a medium black pig came in between me and the sow and I shot hard quartering to..full pass thru and pig went to squealing and ran off to my left...the sow was now walking toward me to investigate and so was a red boar....he gave me a shot and I released...he was facing me and took a step toward me before the arrow arrived and shot was back and pass thru and he squealed and ran right at me...he stumbled in a ditch and face planted and then ran by me maybe 8ft away.....I was shaking bad and took my vest, saddle, kneepads off and sit there for a sec to calm down...as I'm sitting there I hear more pigs in the palmettos so I took the bow and stalked toward the sound....I caught up with them maybe 50yds from initial spot I had the encounter and shot a medium black pig and it kinda grunt/growl....shot was a little high and pass thru...I searched and searched and then my buddy @Capttickle drove over and helped me search. There was good blood at the begining but it just petered out and they were lost to the palmettos ....I'm gonna go back tomorrow with the metal detector and hopefully recover 1 or both of the lost arrows..afternoon sit was uneventful .....be back at it in the am

Awesome action, man - AWESOME! Sounds like you had a massive adrenaline dump! Gotta love those heavy arrows & full pass-throughs! Did I read somewhere else that you're using Grizzlystik single-bevel Samurai 200 grain heads? Or were you shooting something else today? Those hogs are TOUGH!

Cutthroat 200gr

They just so twitchy ...small aim point that's constantly moving.....I'm a little bummed I didn't recover any of them...but I'm not losing any sleep....pretty confident 2 of those pigs won't make it and their buddies will eat them soon enough

Man, I love this time of year. 42° this morning for the opener. I was setup by 630. It was dead silent before light very lite winds. Saw tons of deer moving on the way to WV before light too. Saw a few around 7-710 but they were more then 60 yards out and I couldn't really tell how many there were. All stayed quiet until 9, I had a doe literally just appear at 20 yards, I never heard her. She fed a little while and moved on. I'm not shooting does down there until rifle season because you have to remove the spine and brain before you bring across thw Stateline. So I de-bone and pack them out, I just don't want to do that for a doe yet...... I have 5 buck tags to fill, soo doe are typically late season ventures with the flintlock...

Despite the wx report that is was only supposed to rain for a few hours yesterday, it turned out to only not rain for a few hours. This morning, we had dense fog until about now and my trail cam I setup on a typical hotspot only caught me walking up to check it.

I did find another spot though I’ve never hunted. It’s a heavily worn trail leading to some planted fields. It’s easy and quiet to get to and will setup there tonight and tomorrow morning and hopefully ambush something.

Walk into a new area this morning and seen a bunch of deer in a private field that borders public. I tried to stalk up and maybe get a shot when they jumped the fence but the wind switched and backed out.....I came back in here for the evening. Sitting the swamp near where the deer where this morning in a wet grassy area with lots of trails weaving in and out coming out of swamp going toward the private ...feel good about this sit.....fingers crossed

Saw 4 deer this evening, I got within 10 yards of a sleeping deer that I thought was dead. I saw it laying there and wanted to see if it had been shot. I was probably 8-10 yards away and I stepped on a twig and man she picked her head and I saw her eyes about pip out of her head, I literally saw the fear in her face.... lol saw a little forky, and small 8pt, and got a glimpse of a real descent buck on the way out to the car.. so dang happy to have the season here!

Finally saw deer this evening but they were small and was enjoying watching one doe try to figure out what I was.

In a month, that small doe is dinner if I haven’t already filled tags.

Sorry I’ve been MIA, guys! I’m on an out of state hunt in KY right now, but my season in Virginia comes in Oct. 1. Hopefully I can put some points on the board for us between now and Wednesday!

Saw 3 deer this weekend with the next chance in 2 weeks. Hopefully, they’ll start harvesting soon to push the deer out of the corn.
