Team Johnny 5 is alive!

Back to work tomorrow, 5 sits last week, wounded a small buck and tracked it for over 400 yards, no recovery. I haven't shot many deer the last couple years, so if legal, arrows are getting deployed. This cold front is great, seeing all kinds of movement. I have seen 6 so far.
Good luck team, back at it next week!

Sorry about that. I know how much that sucks.

Season opens here (VA) this weekend. Who else has an Oct. 1st opener? Unfortunately, we're going to get hit with the remnants of a hurricane. I think as soon as this storm breaks, it could be good. Plan to have my first sit either Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning––whenever the storm is just about to let up

Ya, archery October 1. I had got a couple hunts in on a reduction zone. But they make us use the ladder stand in place. But I will be in the saddle Saturday AM and PM and Sunday PM! Stay safe!

No luck. Had deer around me all evening though. Ended up at ground level and had a doe get about 10 yards from me right at prime time. She eventually figured out I wasn't part of the tree. Wish I would have shot her when I had the chance, she ended up blowing and running back towards the bedding area. Rest of the deer just looked at her like it was a her problem. Of course the droptine buck is on the camera shortly after I left. Who knows what would have happened if the doe had got a arrow she came out or hadn't gotten so close... I am Sore! Crawled in for a couple hundred yards because some of the deer are bedding in the Milo. Fun evening but no points

sounds like a fun hunt still. I got another hunt in too. My hunting buddy gave me good intelligence on a public land 12 point we've been watching for 2 years now. But our early season winds here in Tennessee are always super swirly. Ended up seeing 7 does and a small buck. Right at last light the wind swirled and gusted towards the bedding thicket and I heard what sounded like a very large deer blow and bust out back towards their bedding. no way of knowing if it was him, but its more fun to think that it was. no points here either.

I hunted hard all weekend. Private Saturday AM and PM, nothing but piece and quiet. Sunday afternoon public hunt in a beautiful area, seen a couple doe, just no shot opportunity. Stay safe!

Well no dice yesterday yall. morning I was super quiet and slow and then when I got to the exact spot I wanted to be in I saw a pair of eyes, then another and then 5 more. There was about 7 deer hanging out there in the oaks. I was hoping they'd still be out in the fields and then hit the oaks on their way back to bed, but nope. mornings are tough here early season. went out again in the evening to a different piece of public, scouted a little, relocated a camera and then set up for the evening. Counted 7 deer that ran across on opening about 70 yards from me with a solid hour of shooting light left. well the minutes ticked by and nothing. had just checked my phone and with 3 minutes of legal left, 2 of the does popped out about 20 yards down from me but offered no good shot opportunities. If Im gonna take a bow shot that close to closing time, I really want the deer within 5-10 yards and even then I don't love it. hope yall have some good hunts this week!

Sounds like fun. I know when it doesn't all come together on some hunts it can be a bit frustrating, but looking back later I always have good memories of the challenge and emotions that go into it. Keep after it.

We're getting a cold front and a wind switch tomorrow. I'm planning on taking off at noon and hiking the long way around and getting in a tree on the edge of the Milo field. Got another pic of drop tine right at the end of legal light last night.
