I used the ol' one stick up method this morning, and it paid off! Shot her at 7:20 this morning at 75ish yards. Got home in time to even take a shower before work.

Used my circa 1938 Winchester Model 70 chambered in .30-06. The blood trail had pieces of lung in it.

This week, my brother-in-law, who introduced me to hunting, and is an excellent hunter came out to my place for a hunt. I sent him in a direction and within an hour he had shot a monster buck from a saddle. So this afternoon I’m headed up to his place for an out of state rifle hunt. I’ll be in the saddle and I’m hoping to add some points to our board. Here’s his buck:

Hunted all week over the holiday with no luck. Saw quite a few deer and had a few chances but nothing worth taking yet. Still have time to help the point total. I’ll hunt a few more times before end of year then 1st week of January will be heading to Tensas NWR for a week. Killed and 8-point and spike there last year so hoping to get something then for sure. Won’t be picky either by then. Doe or buck comes through and arrows will be slung!!
 
I may hunt a few more times, but I doubt I will be shooting anything else. Not that I don't want to, but I am doing some serious traveling overseas in the first half of the next year. Whatever I don't eat by the time I leave, I am giving away to friends and family. No sense in killing anything else unless it's an absolute monster

I gotcha. do yall have hunters for the hungry there? we have it in TN and sometimes I will kill a deer and not have time to mess with it or my freezer is already full and I can just drive it to my local processor and they take it off my hands for free. All the meat goes to feed the homeless. This way you could get points for your team AND help your fellow humans! WIN/WIN.

Yup, we have H4H here too. Awesome program. I haven't donated anything to it yet, but I love the idea.

I would have to shoot a buck greater than 8 points to be able to contribute any more points for the team! Not saying it's impossible, but I have nothing on camera greater than 8...although I do have a couple really beautiful 8s from months ago that somehow disappeared come late October. Hoping they will show back up on camera any day now with the rut pretty much wrapped up.

I hear ya. I just have to shoot something better than a 5 point to swap out, so ive set the bar fairly low. All my big boys disappeared too. Hoping they'll be back to give me one more opportunity
